I heard the stories. I heard the rumors. I knew the risk. I took the chance. I bought a beautiful Kimber CDP II Pro.
I marveled over the $1,000 masterpiece. I showed it off to friends and family. I bragged to those who hadn't seen it. I was proud to pull it out at the gun range over the weekend. I loaded the Wilson magazines carefully and skillfully. 6 in all w/ 230 grain FMJ's. I slid the magazine in the extended well. Cocked it. Aimed.... Guess what? Nothing. I cycled another round. BAM! Right on target. Then... Click. Nothing. Another Round Cycled. BAM! Right on target. Then... Click. Nothing. So on and so on. Yep, another famous Kimber Custom Shop POS. FTF, FTE, SP. WTF? Good thing I held off on purchasing that similar 3" model w/ CT. I'm sure it would suck too! Thanks for listening. Regards, ~WC~ |
| I have 2 Kimbers a Custom II stainless and a TLE. My Good friend is a 1911 gunsmith and I had to swap out manuel labor for some Custom Work, Carry Job,Trigger and Throating jobs but my Kimbers run 100% even with very Shitty ammo. My point is I have not seen a Kimber that didn't need something done to it out of the box to get it to run 100%. My guy says for the Money the basic Kimber is a great gun for a Custom Starter piece.. |

40-45,
Six Wilson Combat (47D) magazines were loaded. NOT 6 rounds in an 8 round magazine. Coincidently, the stock magazine only held 7 rounds... Also, I was firing Federal Premium loads. Everyone Else, Kimber called back. They are having UPS pick up the firearm sometime within the next 3 days. I dropped it off at the dealer where purchased. Thanks for your continued interest in this very uninteresting saga (that appearantly has been played out many, many times). Re, ~WC~ |

Sorry to hear about your issues. I only have one Kimber and its a stainless Ultra Carry II. Its been 100% reliable with all ball and HP,standard and +P ammo without doing a single thing to it using the stock mag and 2 Kimpro Tac mags. It even works with the garbage mag from my SA Mil spec. I keep it loaded with HST 230gr in either standard or +P.
Hopefully Kimber will make it right. |

ALL weapons require a "break-in" period, in which the FTF's, FTE's and like ailments are worked out.
I purchased a Kimber Pro CDP II, and have 600+ rounds through it, and ALL FOUR (YES FOUR!) FTE's (that's "failure to eject") that I have experienced were during the use of the Kimber "stock" magazine that shipped with the gun. I'm sort of apologetic for the fact that you spent too much money on Wilson Combat magazines. I'm sure they run flawlessly for all that own them, but there are many less-expensive alternatives that produce superb results, such as the 6 magazines I purchased at a gun show for $40 that have all run 75+ rounds without any failures of any kind. Don't be so apt to judge Kimber because you're having many of the same issues that gun owners have with a brand new piece of equipment - take time, and a little patience, and do some research... ...and some of those "problems" will work themselves out, maybe with a little of your help, maybe with a little of someone else's help. It'll get better, that gun you bought is one of the best, hands down. Congratulations on your purchase. |

Haveone and no issues. Send it back and they will fix it. Weren't you having a problem with the slide locking back without feeding the last round, or did we determine that to be a mag related failure? I love it when these things happen. P.S. Doc, you missed an epic birdshot for home defense thread last week. It is sorta still going on, but it's mostly a bleeding carcass of the thread it once was. |

I missed a birdshot shooting at work last night on my day off. Some dude capped another dude at bad breath distance with a cut down single shot 12 guage. We are pretty sure it was 7 1/2 shot. Anyway, the shootee threw his arm up to shield his face when he saw the shooter whip the shotgun out. From what other officers told me, his forearm was shredded, but none of the pellets made it through to his face. So, he's got a fucked up looking arm, but is other wise alright.

I'm gonna go post that in the birdshot thread and spice it up a little. |

I picked the SIS after some research because it was designed for & with the input help from the LAPD. I knew it would have to be a great pistol because of it's intended purpose. Anytime, anything is designed for cops or military it gets a lot of extra attention, detail, & testing so I knew it would be a good decision for a 1911 purchase. I am dam glad, I was correct & I hate to hear that happened to you, cause I know if that happened to me GOD DAM I would be pissed & pissed is an understatement. That's the reason I always buy (anything & everything) new so I will not have problems & I sure that's why you did? I would assume with our present political climate there were a lot of rushed 1911's out the door from all makers excluding High End Complete custom 1911's. From my perception & probably the firearm industry's in general figured the amounts of sales would be better to rush & get them in the store & repair them later instead of losing this once in a life time opportunity for mega revenue. WTF? Good thing I held off on purchasing that similar 3" model w/ CT. I'm sure it would suck too! Thanks for listening. Regards, ~WC~ |

As you may remember, I posted early last month about a slew of initial problems I had w/ my Kimber CDP II Pro. I spoke with customer service and they agreed to take a look at it. I shipped it out on a Wednesday and I received a call back from Customer Service the following Friday. Jay, the customer service rep, explained the hammer spring was shorter than it should be. thus causing the problems. They exchanged the hammer spring, cleaned, greased, and polished my gun (including the barrel), and shipped it back to me, all in a week and a day. After a week or so, they called to check in and see how it was firing and asked about my overall satisfaction of the process.
I have yet to have the time to take it to the range, but I plan to tomorrow. Re, ~WC~ |

Hopefully they did in fact fix the problem, and that's all it was. |

Oh, I failed to mention in my last post that Kimber Customer Service wanted to charge me $52.00 ($22.00 for the replacement spring and $30.00 for return shipping) to "repair" my CDP. After a lengthy, slightly heated discussion, I convinced them to cover the charges. I was extremely dissapointed that Kimber wanted ME to cover the cost of correcting their mistakes and poor workmanship on a BRAND NEW firearm.
