i just noticed some surface rust starting on my barrel. i heard that a lot of kimbers are doing this. what do you use to take care of this? -Tim |

some real fine steel wool (0000) and 3n1 oil. 2 or 3 drops of oil on the rusty spots and scrub with the steel wool. I've never seen the steel wool damage the finish but it sure gets rid of the rust. If it's gotten pitted the pits will still be there but they'll be blue, not brown. The wipe it down with an oil rag when you handle it. |

This seems to be a common problem with Kimbers. Definitely sucks. I can't add much more on how to deal with it once it's there, but I will say that I haven't had that trouble with my only Kimber. And I don't know that this is the reason why, but I lube my 1911 barrels with a thin coat of grease all along the barrel. I'm not sure if that has helped stave off rust or if I just got a lucky barrel, but you might consider it. |

I feel your pain, but I've seen my buddies duty TRP and it has flecks of rust as well. Get some green 3M scotch bright and WD-40. Steel wool will work, but you will leave more steel/carbon deposits and continue to rust. I've knocked off the surface rust on my TLE barrel and no pitting. I'm a sweaty bastid, plus Chicago weather has not been very dry. I'm going to try the Sentry Solutions Tuf-cloth and products to see if I can get more protection from regular lube. Definitely more maintenance involved when carrying this as a working gun compared to my Glock, but I don't mind. |
