Hello guys! I took my new (used) Kimber out today and boy is this thing great! I started out using 230gr Blazer ammo , using all 3 mags that came with it. Then i went to 200 rnds of WWB....still no problems.I finished my range time with 150 rounds of 185gr. Hornady xtp-hp reloads...4.5 grs of Clays powder. With my reloads, I was able to hit bullseye 16 of the 21 rounds that i fired. I did notice that w/ the 230 grs, that 4in barrel BUCKED! Not too uncontrollable, but you sure can tell the difference than 5" barrels. I really am pleased with this hand gun, and I truly feel comfortable using this as my carry gun! |

Have any of you guys switch out the factory sights and replaced them with night sights? What brand did you use, and do you have to send the slide in to Kimber to have them installed? Anyone mind showing your IWB rig. That's what I'm leaning towards, but want to stay under $100 bucks! |

don't have pics of my iwb holster, but it's a crossbreed link I love the holster, once I adjusted it for my liking. It fits so well, I sometimes forget it's there. Hope that helps, Telephoneman |
I switched out the factory sights on my Pro Carry for the Meprolight N/S. Ordered them from TopGunSupply and had a local smith install them for $35. |

So since I bought my Kimber, reading on alot of different forums, it seems like "Kimbers" are more delicate than any other 1911 out there. Seems like you have to take extra care and put more effort into them to get some to function properly. So far I haven't had any issues with the one I bought, but from alot of reading and researching, many other 1911 brands seem to just plain work right out of the box! Why do so many Kimbers have to be "broken in" or sent back for them to just function? Or are those testimonies from people who were expecting other things from the gun, and just want to be able to say "I had some work done to mine" |
Kimber manufactures a lot of pistols per year and if they only have a 1% failure rate that's going to be better than 5,000 guns with problems. Many manufactures would be delighted with a 1% failure rate. Many of Kimbers problems were with their external extractors. They went back to the internal extractors and that cured a lot of their problems. Could Kimber do better, sure they could but so could all of the other 1911 makers. Their customer service has been spotty but seems to be consistently improving, at least from the accounts that I have read recently. Read the different forms (and on other gun boards) on the other manufactures and you'll find that they all have their problems. The other problems with all the new 1911s is not with the guns but with us the consumers. We demand tighter and tighter fitted guns and that does not always insure accuracy or reliability. The break in period is to let the parts wear in together and to a certain extent loosen the parts fit somewhat, if only by a very small amount. Should the manufacture do this, well how much do you want to pay for your gun. Their time costs money and I'll do the break in if it saves me a couple hundred dollars. The other problem is some people shouldn't own 1911s. We've all read posts and said to ourselves "what's this guys problem". Maybe the gun needs the extractor tuned or better mags, a little extra fitting/polishing, etc. Some people don't know enough to help themselves. I bought a Kimber Pro Carry II NIB and have never had a problem with it. It was very tightly fitted when new. I over lubed it during the break in period, which was about 350 rds in my case. At this point I could feel the difference in the slide and trigger fit, noticeably smoother in operation. But I didn't have any problems during the break in period. After that I went to normal lubing and have fired 2250 rds with 100% percent reliability. People seem to have the Microsoft syndrome with Kimber. They love to hate the big boy on the block and Kimber is one of the biggest if not THE biggest boy on the block. Plus you will always hear the bad things over and over and over. But you'll rarely hear the good things once. YMMV PS If you think Kimber bashing is bad, I own a Taurus PT1911. You should see the bashing that goes our way as Taurus owners. It's just unreal!!!!!!! Yeah, nothing quite like Alessi leather, and the CQC/S just can't be beat. |
