I have been looking at kimbers for a very long time now, and I was pretty much decided on getting the custom II, but lately i have heard a lot of good things about the Warrior. Now the Warrior is obviously a superior firearm, but is it worth it for what i will be doing, just target shooting. Here are the different points that have an influence im my opnion: 1. The cost difference would mean another month or two of saving. 2. If I'm going to get a high quality gun like Kimber, then I want to do it right the first time. 3. The standard tactical rail on the warrior. I know that there is a lot of information that I still do not know about either of these firearms, but I am still in the researching process. If anyone has any opinions that they would like to give, i would be happy to receive them, and are there other key features that i am missing? Thankyou in advance for your responses. |
| If you do not need night sights, ambidex safety and the rail, the Kimber 25th Anniversary Model is also Series I Model and does not have the Series II safety or external extractor...you can still find a few of these around NIB and at a decent price as well. (also, no frontstrap checkering either) |
First, welcome to the boards! ![]() You've come to the right place to seek advice. I just became a Kimber (and 1911) owner back in December and I've really come to love the platform. However, I've learned that 1911s have a loyal and strong following and the purist do not like the passive safety and external extractor of the Series II Kimbers. Now, not all Series II have the external extractor but they all have the passive safety. Some say they work great while others claim they've had nothing but problems. I don't know either way but when I did my research I decided I was going to stick with the internal extractor and that I did not want a passive safety. My thought was why have more parts than necessary? I suggest you save a little longer and buy a Warrior. Like you said, do it right the first time. That's not to say there is anything wrong or bad about the Custom II, I'm sure it's a fine pistol but I think you'd still want a Warrior if you bought the Custom II. BTW, you should look at the 25th Anniversary like ikor suggested above. That is what I own and you can find them (but it's getting hard) for around $750 on gunbroker. |
Welcome to the forum . . . Looking forward to range report w/pictures plus your first impressions. RC |
I have a Warrior. I really like the night sights. If the gun is ever used for self-defense it would probably be in my home at night. Nothing like turning on the light to see the intruder. I've shot in the dark and the sights are great. Speaking of turning on the light - I liked the tactical rail for mounting a light, but bought a hand held Z2, Shurefire instead. Works great for night work and I can use the light for other uses as well. So, don't truly need the rail. I like the ambi-safety (didn't care for one at 1st). The Warrior does really good! Now, I too, really do like the 25th Anniversary model. I'll probably get one soon. |
