New to this site and I need HELP! Bought a NEW Custom TLE/RL ll in Jan.  Between my son and myself, we have put about 1000 rds through it so far, with no problems, except one. This thing like Wolf better than anything in brass. We are using FMJ at the range anything in brass is 2 to 3 inches off the X at 25yds. Wolf is on the X! I know this is NOT a good thing! So some help would be great from you Kimber folks out there. About the only brass ammo I have not tried is Lancer. I just read about this stuff, is it any good and where can I get some in bulk? Help me get away from Wolf and tell me what I am tearing up inside this TLE. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the site.

Your problem does not make any sense to me.  Are you saying you can hit your POI at 25-yards with Wolf, but all other ammo leaves you 2-3 inches off POI?  Are you shooting off a rest?  What other ammo have you tried?  I fail to see how case composition (i.e. type of metal) can adversely affect accuracy.

When the bullets hit off POI, where are they going?  For example, are they going low and to the left?  Are you shooting right-handed?

Thanks for the reply. I thought I was getting the cold shoulder being a rookie.  Right handed, standing, leaning left arm against a 6x6 post. I have tried Winchester, Rem and some Orbit that I bought at a show. All the brass ammo shoots low left. The Wolf will be right on. And this is not  just me, it does the same with my son who is a trained Marine Corps shooter. The Wolf was the first ammo put through the gun. It was what I had on hand, wanting to go try the pistol out. The first shooting, about 300 rounds, all Wolf. All great shots right out of the box Kimber. Perfect gun. The brass ammo now, is not so good as Wolf. Will the Wolf wear out my Kimber?  I have the same problem with a HK USC. The wolf will X at 50 yards with it. The brass ammo is low left.  The Kimber, I bought new, the HK, was purchased at a gun show, but had very little use. Am I using the wrong brass ammo? Am I wearing my guns out using the Wolf? Am I asking too many questions??? I think maybe, but I have more about my SA Mil Spec I will keep for later.  Thanks for any of your thoughts!

The problem with Wolf is not that it will wear out your Kimber.  It's the fact that they are lacquer coated.  Everytime you shoot, a little lacquer residue is left in the chamber.  After enough build up, you have a chamber full of glue, and a case will get stuck in there.  Usually it happens when the gun has a hot chamber.  When it does happen, it's next to impossible to get it apart.

Also, shooting low left with the other ammo makes sense.  The Wolf is lower velcity, which means it will shoot higher, all other things being equal.  You can either keep shooting the Wolf (though more than likely it will eventually seize up your gun), or you can adjust your sights for the other ammo.  You'll be spot on windage wise and be a little off in elevation. 2" - 3" off on elevation is not really a bad thing.  Kimbers have a higher than standard lockup with their barrels, which means a gun that shoot lower than most 1911s.  That's a good thing, since Kimber barrels are fit better than most other manufacturers.  If it bothers you, you can always remove a little off the front sight. 2" - 3" requires only about .005" removal off the front sight.
