OK my friend has a 10mm eclispe it's 2 months over and it's rusting. My other friend has a Stainless II and it's barrel is rusting. Seen another guys barrel rusting so bad  it was jamming the slide up. What's the deal? Ya know i know this is FL but, stuff that is 2 months old shouldn't do that. Is this a common problem with Kimber? When you pay the price kimber brings you don't expect it to rust.

Yeah, they do it.  Even the stainless guns don't seem to come with SS barrels.

Flitz metal polish should take care of it.  I had to use it on both of my Kimbers.

we've taken a brass wheel and removed it , then sealed the pores with billistol. 2 weeks later it's started again. It's really stupid that you should have to do that on a $1200 pistol. I keep telling him to call kimber.

My Kimber barrel rusted bad but that is because I forgot to clean it after firing ammo with corrosive primers.  I'll be sure to take better care of the BarSto barrel that I'm installing as a replacement.

In the past, I have discovered a few small spots of surface rust on top of my barrel, and a little spot in the chamber. The spots have been removed, but disconcerting none the less. I tend to check my TLE a little more often now.

Stainless steel is a misnomer - the correct term is stainresistant steel.

It'll rust.

Same here. Noticed just a few tiny spots on the top of the barrel. Made sure to scrub it out (to the extent where it can't be seen with the naked eye with two Surefires on it). Now I take it out and clean it quite often with rust preventative.

My whole gun rusted after 3 hours in an airline hold. I'm gonna NP3 the bitch and see if that fixes it

I came back off an 8 month deployment a while back.  I forgot to clean my pistolas before I left.  All of them had green stuff on the rifling inside the barrels from copper jacketing.  But, the only rust on my Kimber Custom was on the grip safety.  Barrel was good to go.

I carry a  carbon steel Custom II everyday and have had no rust problem at all.

A review of the Kimber catalog indicates that only their  high end pistols have stainless barrels, the Eclipes is not one of them. The Gold Combat, LTP, Gold Match Ten, Super Match, and  Raptor  5" have stainless barrels. I was born and still live in Florida, my two Kimbers are rust free and will remaine so as long as I do my part in maintaining them.

I'm amazed at how little we have to think about rust here.  I've got 4 kimbers and none of them have ever rusted.  I can't think of any rust I've had on any gun no matter how long is has sat.

An average of about 17 to 20 % humidity is good that way!

My 25th Anniversary had a little corrosion on the outside and some build up on the inside.  My local smith hit the outside with a buffer and cleaned it up and I ran some Shooter Choice on a patch through the bore using a Jag and the problem was solved!  I'm a little more aware of rust and corrosion now and so I stay on top it .

+1   Flitz is good stuff.  I had to use it on the barrel face and the sides of the hammer.  Rust sucks.

I had my TLE in my fannypack under my seat in the car for about a week to 10 days during a very cold snap.  3 or 4 times a day my car would go from being -35F or colder to being 65-70F.  I took it ou of my fanny pack to carry in a holster, I almost threw up.  It was covered in surface rust.  A little steel wool, a little oil, and a little elbow grease got it off, but damn tuff lesson learned.
I am shipping it off tomorrow to have it Duracoated.

My new Kimber had some rust on the outer top of the barrel before I bought it.

I don't think they oil them up well enough before shipment.

My Ultra CDP is carried in the pants every single day and it has developed some minor rusting around the front of the barrel. I thought it was my gig but after reading this I have some serious eyebrow raising going on. Is there anything that we should be doing different to PREVENT this from happening. Back in the Army, rust on your weaon was a major nono so I am extra paranoid. Old habits die hard.

If you're ex Army, you ought to be familiar with the acronym "PMCS".

Good Call on the PMCS and yes that gets done more frequently than I ever did in the Army, BUT that was not stoping the barrel from rusting. I lube her properly and I have even changed products. I have either slowed down the rust or stopped it for now after I switched to Corrosion X for Weapons. The jury is still out though. I was just glad to see my head space and timing was not completely off based on other folks' experience.

I carry IWB and the biggest problem I had on my CDP was the grip screws/bushings and rear sight rusting. I just keep wiping them with oil now.
