Yeah, I think .41 mag would be more powerful.
But depends on your application.
The DE requires a lot of attention and maintenance, the colt doesn't.
The DE, with proper care, can be pretty much as reliable as any good gun, but for self defense, I'd go with the colt.

As far as the D.E.P. requiring a lot of attention, not so.  They draw a lot of attention though!  Maintainance?  Very little.  The polygonal rifling cleans easily, they fieldstrip in seconds and everything is easy to get at.  I own a .44 with a 6 and a 10 inch barrel as well as a .50.  I would love to add a .41 to the collection.  These big pistols are excelent for hunting and long distance range work (play).  If I had to use one for self defence ( I carry concealed ) I'd have to conceal it with a very long coat and it would be slow to present compared to a 1911 style pistol.

The .41 mag balistics speak for themselves and are creampuff loads in the DEP.  The Delta 10mm is known for pounding themselves apart unless you shoot very little.  Concealment options are nearly endless for the conventional size pistols.

Personally, I would suggest you but the .50 Mk 19.  That platform will accept ALL the other caliber conversions and you will never regret the investment.  If you are psycologically favoring the 10mm, buy that TOO.  I have shot the Delta enough to know that I really enjoy the piece, just not enough to buy one.

Oh ya and by the way, Magnum Research in Minnessota is very easy to deal with, very accomidating and very personal.  They are well established with no political problems.  As far as customer service on a Delta (?), Colt is one of my personal IDOL companies but poll the members here to hear the real way you get service from a company that has been politicaly attacked, halted production, gave up the civilian market and then tried to return to the "Little Guy".  You'll get a head-ache.

ive gotten god service from smith n wesson and ruger.ill let you know about colt after i send in my detective special that i ruptured the cylinder on with some idiots hand loads.but i feel the best warrenty or service work is the one you never need.ive been lucky all and all with that.
as for a delta elite tearing themselves apart i feel thats one of those rumours the guy at the gun store says he knows for a fact.same guy you heard it from ehhhh???

I do not understand why this question of 10mm vs .41 keeps coming up. The 10mm case is max length of .992"  The 41 is 1.290"  Any questions?  Speer lists the 10mm as max pressure psi as 37,500; the 41 as 36000. Does anyone think an additional 1500 psi will overcome the smaller case capacity of the 10mm? Besides, my Lyman 47 shows 37,000 cup for the 41 and only under 30,000 for the 10mm.

The bottom line is you can load the 10mm as hot as you want, and even place it in a closed breech design; it will still never be a .41

munk

ps; a LOADED 10mm round is not quite as tall as the CASE of a 41mag.

This MUNK fella is on the right track.  Compare the .41 against any other smaller cartridge and it comes out on top.  Hell, compare it against a .44mag and most will say the .41 mag is better, for controlability mostly.  Isn't the most powerfull caliber still the one you can HIT with.  I'd rather be missed by a .50BMG than hit by a .41mag.  YOU?

If you are interested in a great 41 Magnum, I have a nickel S&W Md57 4". It is Magna Ported. I have been toying with idea of selling it, been bitten by the "Black Rifle Curse". Pictures are available by email
