Hi folks, I have been thinking for years about a DE in 44.But I really dont know sh... about them,Just that a 44 auto would be pretty cool. But seriously what model would be the best as far as reliability.
My MKVII likes the Wolf Gold just fine. The most reliable ammo so far has been my handloads. I use Hornady 240 grain XTP, 23.7 to 23.9 grains H110 powder, and a magnum primer. This is the loudest, most reliable, and most fun round to shoot in my gun. I'd say get some of the Wolf Gold, save the brass, and reload them. Also, Magtech ammo is pretty good. I'd stay away from Georgia Arms 240 grain FMJs though; not enough punch to cycle the slide fully.
Shot it and cleaned it again.Shooting was much more fun.It or I shot low left after about rnds 60 we both got a little more on target.Shot the Wolf gold 240 grn,the DE cycled great recoil not bad but damn loud.Had muffs on.Cleaning was a bitch, not used to the design. But its a keeper.
Had some Fords fiber optic sights installed.Very nice, made a great difference.I can see the sights now.Best group about 11/2" at 30'.Well off a sand bag,but still . W/Wolf Gold 240.Also I noticed that this ammo seems corrosive,is corrosive.I did not clean the pistol till the following day, found some blue/green grunge in the gas port where the piston fits and some spots in the bbl.Like stains on the chrome.
