I'm looking at getting a HK P2000SK in .40cal. I currently own an XD-40 and love it. Only thing is, I can't really carry it concealed. I have a Comp-Tac IWB holster but it still just seems to stand out too much. I don't carry that often but I just would like that option. I shot a friend's Glock 27 and liked it but I'm not a big Glock fan since owning the XD. That's why I'm leaning toward the P2000SK.
I've read a ton of articles on the gun. I guess I'm going to be looking for the LEM version since it's not a true DA/SA, but it's also not a true DA only. I have yet to try one out. Very hard to find in shops around my part of NY. Is it safe to say that since I'm already shooting the XD that the LEM would be the best option? I know that I'll have to make plenty of range time to adjust to the HK trigger reset and all....but I'm always up for a day of shooting! Any reasons why I shouldn't look at the P2000SK? |

Between the H&Ks and the equivalent Glocks, I find Glocks carry better. Lighter, nothing on the back end to jab me, more capacity. I like the USPc better from an aesthetic standpoint, but my G23 spends more time on my hip.
As for the LEM, it'll be the most similar to what you're used to but remember the H&K is still a hammer-fired pistol, not striker fired. I put the LEM on my USPc and found I didn't like it. Went back to the V3 (SA/DA with decock & safety) |

The advantage for the Glock is pre-ban magazines. Carry a small 12 shot in the gun, reload with 17 shots. I don't know about 40 cal availability.
I have 2 full sized USP 9s with 11 pre ban mags. My next gun will either be a Glock 19 or a P2000sk in 357 sig. Still thinking. |

I've got the SK in 9mm and .40. My P30 9mm mags fit the SK, so I'm sure the P30 .40 mags will fit the .40 SK also, I've just never seen the need.
As for DA/SA vs LEM, the differences are way overblown. Yeah, shooting at paper it will feel different, but actual drawing from a holster, shooting at close range at speed, it's not going to make a lot of difference which trigger system you have. Pick what makes you feel most confident carrying. In reality, they're all super safe and an HK is not going to go boom unless *you* pull the trigger. OH, I see you are NY. I think the USP mags will fit an SK just fine too. |
| Mag capacity isn't really an issue for me. The SK in .40cal holds 9 rounds. I can't have more than 10 in NYS anyway......unless it's pre-ban I know. Like I said, that doesn't bother me. I practice to make the first shot count anyhow whether it be hunting, target shooting or the such. The reason I'm looking at an HK is because everyone and their sister owns a Glock. I guess I just like to step out of the norm from what all my shooting buddies have and get something different. Most of them wouldn't pay $800 for a handgun but being HK that's what you gotta do if you want to own one. I'm still trying to find a shop that carries them so I can try them out. I had a S&W 908S that was DA/SA and wasn't a big deal for me to shoot. Obviously it took a lot more concentration getting used to that system over my XD. That's why I was leaning toward the LEM model. |
| Why not get a compact XD? I like my HK P2000 LEM, but if I could carry a Glock for work instead, I would. I was issued a Sig P229R DAK and could not stand the DAK trigger. I had to buy the P2000 with my own $$ and like the LEM trigger much better than the DAK, but it will never be as good as Glock's trigger. I have not tried the XD line, but I imagine them very similar to Glock. I also don't think HK are worth what they charge. Don't get me wrong, I think they're very well made guns and are reliable or I would not carry one for work, but If I didn't go through the HK LE program, I would have never paid what they sell for in stores. |

I have been carrying a DA/SA P2000SK in .357 SIG for 3 years now and I really like it. If I had to do it all over again, I think I would go with the LEM though. I purchased a USP 45 Tac with the LEM 2 years ago and prefer it.
I can't think of any reason not to look at it. |

I have the HK P2000SK in 9mm and 40S&W. Both of them are equipped with LEM triggers. I carry it in a Comp-Tac MTAC IWB holster. It's very comfortable and concealable.
The LEM trigger is great for CCW. Spend some time at the range getting comfortable with the LEM trigger and you'll never go back. You can't go wrong with the P2000SK. |
