Can someone describe or explain the HK LEM trigger for me. If possible, I'd like to know the differences in their trigger designations. Thanks,

The LEM or "Law Enforcement Modification" is double action only. I converted my USP40c to LEM from variant 1 which is DA/SA. I also opted to keep the safety lever but the decocker no longer functions (since you can't cock the hammer anyway this makes sense).
The result is, in essence, a hammer down, but precocked double action with a long trigger travel which is light to begin with and then about a 5 pound (IIRC) break to actually fire. I assume the guns that come as LEM feel the same way. Pardon my incoherence. |

Good Lord, how many times does one have to post this before it turns up in the search?
LEM trigger. The LEM trigger is a DAO trigger that uses a pre-loaded hammer spring. When the slide is racked the hammer spring is roughly 80% cocked. While the second part of the hammer follows the slide forward, the first part remains cocked. Then when you pull the trigger you finish cocking the hammer and fire the weapon. Depending on springs installed the DAO pull is 5 (LEM V1), 7 (LEM V4), 8 (LEM V2-standard), or 10 pounds (LEM V5) whereas the DAO pull on a normal variant USP/C (V5, 6, 7) or V3 P2000 or P2000SK is about 11 pounds. Unlike the Glock, you do not have to rack the slide to "cock" the weapon again if you have a misfire, you can simply pull the trigger again which will completely load up the hammer spring and drop the hammer and attempt to fire the cartridge a second or third time (second strike or repeat strike capability). However, pulling the trigger on an un-pre-loaded hammer spring the pull will be about 11 pounds. The only time this would happen is when dry firing or trying to light off a misfire by dropping the hammer on it a second time. When you chamber a round or when the slide cycles ejecting a fired round and picking up a fresh one the hammer spring is pre-loaded so the pull will be very light. Also on the LEM system, while the first pull is long but light, the reset on the trigger is very short, only .300 inch. While the pull is the same weight, you do not need to release the trigger all the way for it to reset and this short reset makes follow up shots very fast. |
