I'm in the market for a new EDC pistol (as in, I'm going to make a purchase this week), and have narrowed it down to these 2. There's no place locally that stocks the HK45C, but I've fired the USP45ct and really liked it (and shot pretty darned well with it too).

I know these two models are quite different, but what I'm trying to figure out is if the Compact tactical has any advantages over they HK45C beyond the threaded barrel (I'm not likely to ever use a suppressor on it). I've read in a few places that the the trigger has been 'gone over' on the CT model (though I can find no reference to this on the H&K website). I really liked the trigger on the one I've shot, so if they're the same on both models I think I'd just as soon not have the extended barrel poking me in the side (I carry typically IWB) -Though the soft case that comes with the CT is a nice touch too.

Thanks!

First post, welcome!

If I may, I would wonder about the trigger on the one you shot. It may have had many many rds thru it & have a great deal of break-in compared to the other one you looked at that was new? If not, then please disregard.

Personally, *I* would opt for the Tactical model. The threaded bbl shouldn't give you any issues with CCW & it obviously allows you to add a suppressor down the road. I would also urge you to get one (suppressor) before Nobama gets sworn in. Great investment.

If the Tactical Compact has the o-ring on the bbl, this may (or may not) be a plus for you. Some say they add to the accuracy, some say the standard barrels are already more accurate than the average shooter. Could be both.

Sorry I wasn't more help.

Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome...Nice little place you guys have here (think I'll sit down and have a beer if you guys don't mind :) )

The CT i shot did have a couple hundred rounds down the tube, so that may have contributed to it...All I know is that the overall feel of the weapon was/is enough to get me to plunk down some cash on one of my own

I can get either for more or less the same price, which is where the indecision comes in...I certainly don't mind having the 'older' model it's always nice to have the 'latest and greatest' too ....with my limited exposure to H&K pistols (this is the first time I've handled one) I'm a little 'wishy-washy' on where to plunk down my dough.

Does anyone out there regularly carry the CT? if so, does the extended barrel cause any issues with IWB carry (poking in the side, etc).

Always go with your instincts, IMO.

Thats what I'm thinking too, just want to make sure I'm not missing out on anything better since I'm not able to handle the newer model (there's only one 'stocking' shop around here and they won't order one to have it sit on the shelf -but they don't mind having 10 kimber's in the cabinet) ...."My guy" is a small time dealer who runs his shop out of his home which nets me some great prices, but the downside is he only has a few items in his safe at any given time and truely can't afford to stock a high-end pistol if I don't end up taking it....

Nah. You'll someday look back & wonder, "Why did I EVER hesitate about buying this thing?"

Well, looks like it's a moot point now anyway. My guy just called me back and said he can't get the USP45ct now and doesn't know when he'll be able to again.....Going out tomorrow to try and find the 45c to put my hands on....no dealer local to me stocks them

I wanted to handle the HK45c before I bought it just to make sure that it fit in my hand well, it sounds like you prefer to handle it before you buy it too. I found a local dealer who had 1 slightly used one in stock (it looks like new condition), I paid $800.00 and am very happy with the pistol, it fits my hand perfectly. I put on a Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light since it is the only one that will currently fit the HK45c and I will use it as my night stand pistol mostly. This model seems to be in short supply and would be fairly easy to resell if you didn't like it for any reason, but I personally feel the HK45c is a keeper. You can find a dealer online who has competitive prices (I have seen a few) and just have it shipped to your local dealer. Good luck with your search!

Had a USP45c (not CT) and sold it...never could bring myself to like it much. I have shot a HK45C and I like it much better but I don't plan on buying one because, bluntly, I carry a 9mm, and for shooting in .45acp I prefer the HK45f to the Compact. JMO
