I'm going to pick up a USP here in a month or so once I commission.  I have a G19 I bought as my first handgun because I wanted a 9mm that was big enough to shoot comfortably at the range and small enough to CCW. I've gotten half way decent with a handgun at the range anyhow and I'm going to attend a pistol class soon but I've always wanted a HK and I want a .45 now so it's a no brainer.  I don't like the spiderman grips on the HK45 and the HK-45 compact is an option but I haven't handled one yet so I haven't included it yet.  So far I've looked at:

HK USP-c .45 (New $805)  Fits in my hand nice and small enough to carry if I chose to do so.  How would it be at the range though?  Are they like the G19...large enough to shoot comfortably at the range but small enough to CCW.

HK USP-T .45 (New $899)  Eventually I'll want a can so this cuts to the chase.  Also supposed to be very accurate.  Way too big to carry.

HK USP Expert in .45 (Used $900)  I'm considering putting the Expert on Layaway.  Again it's bigger than a darn 1911 but I have a CCW piece (G19).  Should be accurate as hell though and a very nice range pistol.

All depends on what you want. If CCW use remains a possibility, go for the Compact. If this is a range/HD gun only, get the Tactical.

I have no personal experience with the Expert, but from what I've heard, you're not going to really be getting much - if anything - over the Tactical. The Tactical already has the match trigger as well as adjustable sights, plus it has the advantage of being able to mount a can.

Also, if I go with the Compact, can I put a standard USP hammer on it instead of the bobbed hammer?  Who makes threaded barrels for the compact.  How well do they run suppressed?

I picked up the full sized USP .45 and I like it allot. I use it as my daily carry piece and even though it is laarge, with my IWB holster and a cover shirt none of the sheeple seem to notice. I haven't handled the compact USP .45, but the USP-T .45 is on my to get list.

You should handle and fire a HK45 before you write off the "spiderman" grips. I thought the same as you and I went to the range one day and I shot a guy's P30 and now I'm scraping up money to get one, its sweet.

x2. Handle an HK45 before you write it off. My P30 is hands-down the most comfortable pistol I've ever felt.

Yeah, a lot like a G19.  It would be a great choice.

I went through a few of the high end USPs before I settled on a plain USP .45. It's every bit as accurate as my Tactical, but without the ugly sights and extended barrel.

I think the HK45 is going to be even better, the ergonomics certainly are.

HK USP-T .45.  I have the CCF Impuls IIa suppressor for it and it's a blast to shoot.  I just used the 2 at my last 3 Gun Tourney.  Was a ton of fun.

Why don't you get a USPc .45 and get a threaded barrel seperately?  I hate the sights on the tactical models.

And yes, the usp compact is definitely a great carry piece that can be used comfortably at the range.
