My TAC is getting up to about 5000 rounds-- no issues yet, but how long do you guys go between replacing the recoil spring? How about other springs?

5K is nothing.  You don't need to do any preventive maintenance on the recoil spring assembly until you actually have a problem.  Increased felt recoil, failure to chamber, broken springs...
The HK USP/C is not your daddy's 1911 and the recoil spring will last darned near forever if you don't feed it a steady diet of +P ammo.
I have over 11K though my Compact .45 and it feels the same as my CT .45 with only a few hundred through it.

A guy on HKpro put over 100,000 rounds through his USP 45 full. Replaced the spring at around 80,000 round mark, tho you should do it sooner... mabey 30-50,000 rounds is a good time... Or if you start having the problems as bigbore described.

I just did my USPf at 31000 mark, new recoil spring, firing pin spring, and hammer spring. I had no problems at all, except the mag springs were not allowing to the slide to lock back.
