im trying to figure out what kind of handgun to get... i want a midsized semi auto not sure about what caliber either... i was thinking either .40 sw or .357 sig   .45 acp is a possibility as well... ive always favored h&k but lately kimber and glock have taken new interest...  any feedback people?

I have all three with multiple examples of both the Glock and HK.

I carry my USPc .40 every day.  I shoot it better than the Glock, it't lighter than a full sized 1911 and a sensible control layout, for me.

It has been an appliance and never had an issue with it.

I have hk's, sig's, glock's in 45acp, 40sw, .357sig. Out of all of them I like my sig p229
.357 sig the best. It is compact yet holds 13 bullets and is very accurate and very powerful and shoots wonderfully. It is also a great carry gun and pretty to look athkalthough my hk usp tactical wouldn't qualify as "mid sized". The other prob.
with 45acp is you really need some decent barrel length to up the velocity and
improve accuracy since 45acp is such a slow moving bullet. (above 4.5 inches is best! )
This is true with any gun at any caliber (i.e. longer barrel = better performance)
but especially with the 45acp.

I do not like the 9mm  (too weak), and not that crazy about the 40sw although I have 40sw in a glock29 which is  nasty to shoot. I have owned a hk usp and can tell you
that a HK USP in a 40sw or .357 sig in either compact or standard size would be a fantastic choice giving you good control while shooting plus the many features that
HK guns have that others don't including a safety switch etc..

what you have to do is first pick the caliber you want then go for the gun that best
fits your hand etc... in that caliber..

glocks are great but for some reason more people accidentally shoot them selves with glocks than any other gunhinking.gif

so be careful if you get one.

The USP .45 Compact isn't much of a "compact", it's more of a mid-size, so there's a good option, IMO. Many shooters will tell you their compact will outshoot their fullsize as far as accuracy, I know mine does. No idea why this is, either.

I also once owned a .357 USP compact, but really couldn't afford to feed it, as I don't reload nor desire to. Ended up selling it to pay for the USP .45 fullsize I bought later.

I also picked up a used USP 9mm fullsize last month & it shoots wonderfully! I plan on using this for IPSC & whatnot, not as a CCL.

I've owned two Glocks in the past, a Model 30 in .45acp & 32 in .357Sig. I sold them both as A) Glocks have no personality; & B) I never warmed up to the Glock trigger feel. Doubtful I'll ever buy a Glock again for that reason alone.

Kimbers are good 1911s, generally speaking. Some folks speak against the use of MIM parts, some say it's no concern in the real world. I suspect the truth is somewhere in between. Hard to compare a 1911 to the guns you list though, IMO. A 1911 single action trigger & grip design/feel is unlike any other gun made. Kinda like comparing a Corvette with a hopped up 4WD pick-up: both are great for their type, but different.

Certainly THE best option is to shoot several different brands & models & then decide from there. REMEMBER: What feels good at the gun counter may be a beast at the range. Try to buddy up to some shooters, buy some factory ammo at Wally World & shoot their guns. You should quickly learn what you don't like, even if it takes a while to winnow down what you decide to buy.

pick the one that fits YOU and that you feel comfortable with and you shoot well

nothing wrong w/ HKs at all; i just dont like thier expensive mags, non-existant spare parts, and general bulkyness

but they are great, reliable HGs

The P2000 is the new and improved USPc. There is 4 different back straps that you can change to make the grip smaller or larger. You can't go wrong with either one.

P2000 offers no ability to carry cocked and locked.

Step backwards IMHO.

It means you can't carry it with a round in the chamber, hammer cocked and safety on. Come on you woman... did I not teach you anything in Bahrain?
