I was giving my USP .45 tactical a thorough cleaning and was washing the whole thing in soapy water. I left the guide rod to sit around until the next day when I got around to putting the gun back together and lubing it. I couldn't beleive my eyes when a significant portion of it was covered in rust! Anybody else had this problem? Is the guide rod also HE coated like the slide? JMN69 |
| Use Gunscrubber spray- causes its the harshest and see if it will remove the rust. It is never wise to soak metal overnight in water. 15 mins maybe but not overnight. If it is rusted pretty bad. I would call the new HK customer service in Alabama and see if Travis the gunsmith will return your call. I called twice already and left messages and no calls back. I had better luck when HK was in Virginia for civilians. I got my stuff answered right away when I was polite on the phone. |

Yeah, in retrospect it was dumb to soak the gun overnight. After reading about the HE finish and saltwater spray tests this series of gun has gone through I didn't think much of it. Surely 12 hours in soapy water wouldn't hurt it I thought. It was light surface rust and the majority of it came off with some CLP spray and some scrubbing. Don't think its bad enough that I need to send it back to the factory or replace it. I won't do that again nontheless. Peace. John |
