Last year I stupidly traded my H&K USP .45f. I've regreted it ever since the day I shipped it off. Well a couple Glocks and 1911s latter I'm back to the good stuff. I traded a Springfield stainless loaded even for a almost new USP40f. The pistol came with 2 13 round LEO marked mags and a shado askins style holster. I was told it only had 40 rounds through it as a test fire and has sat in a safe ever since, the only wear was ver minor on the barrel hood. I'm very pleased with it, it is an AD date code.

I got to take her out and run a few rounds through her. This is my first .40 and I wasn't shure what to expect. Accuracy was good, a 2" ragged whole at 15 yards, about 3" low and 1.5" left the gun would probably do better with a different trigger acctuator nut. Function was flawless as was expected. The DA trigger could be a bit lighter but was resonably smooth, the SA trigger was very nice, I woudn't want it any lighter almost no over travel. Recoil was very slight, comparable to a Glock 9mm, much softer than a 1911 in .45.

I plan to put a truglo TFO front sight on it and a millet adjustable rear and possibly a jet funnel if it will fit in the IDPA box with one, I think it could be a good ESP gun. Or I may leave the funnel off and shoot it in SSP if I can get used to the heavy DA pull, seems a lot heavier than my last USP or my old Berretta.

welcome back!

I won't repeat the "G" word here, but I have no idea why you'd trade such a fine pistol for a Gaston Grenade.

temporary insanity perhaps?

I shoot my USPc in .40 at IDPA matches, but I'm classified as ESP.  Don't ask why, I have no idea.  I ordered a reduced power hammer spring from Wolff (thanx Bob Cole) and my DA was reduced without any light primer strikes.

of course, you could always start cocked and locked and avoid DA altogether.  An option I'm sure you missed after your far-too-long stint with the "Crock" weapons.

Thanks rob, yes it was a bit of insanity. What weight spring did you change to?

IIRC, it was an 11# spring, but I think you can go down to 10#.

bigbore will know more, but I'm almost positive 10# is the way to go.

hell, they're only a couple bucks...get both and see which one you prefer.

I am back to owning H&K's again also. I had sold my custom shop USPc .45 and thought I would never own another USP, especially a .45. I got a smokin deal on a brand new USPf .45 V.1 and it was too good to resist. Of all the high-capacity .45 ACP's, I think the USP is by far the best. 13 rounds of 200grn +P Gold Dots and the ability to carry cocked and locked makes for an excellent truck/HD weapon. which is exactly what I use mine for. I dont' appreciate the bastard/unsupported rail, but the USP is an excellent weapon, certainly one of the best combat handguns availible.

I like my USPf .45, but I would trade it for a USPf 9mm V.1 or USPf .40 V.1 in a heart beat. I like USP's, but .45's just don't do it for me...so if you got a USPf9 and want to trade it for my USPf.45, holla back.

The hammer spring will fit the compact version? On their web site it does not specify.

rob78,

I shoot IDPA as well, and it's my understanding that you can shoot that as SSP if you start hammer down.  I start cocked and locked so they make me shoot ESP.

If I shot the .45 compact c&l, I could shoot CDP.  I'm considering doing that.

I use a 10 lb on my 9mm USP FS. I have gotten a total of 2 light primer strikes out of 7,000 rounds of ammo. These two light strikes came from Fed Military +p+ ammo from ammoman and it was my only 2 out of both 50cal worth of ammo.

If you stick with factory ammo you should never see light primer strikes.

You can also get a HK Law Enforcement Trigger installed in your USP.  The LEM trigger gives you more of a 'safe-action' feel if you have the decocker/safety lever removed, which I did on my USP9c and USP9f.

The biggest advantage of the LEM trigger is it smoothes out the DA first shot on a USP and each reset for following shots is extremely short and manageable.

I shoot the USP9c and USP9f in IDPA SSP, but left my USP45f as Variant 1 so I can shoot it in CDP starting cocked and locked.

Lots more information on the HK Pro website

BigBore you have any thoughts ?
