Will USP40f mags fit and feed in a USP9f, if loaded with 9mm? How many rounds will they hold? Do they feed reliably, or would I need to change the follower to a 9mm one?

(full-cap mags are perfectly legal where I live, I'm just looking to save some money if I can)

I have read that they will, but I would hate to learn an expensive lesson, IMO.

As for "saving money", do you have the .40 mags now? Otherwise, the 9mm mags aren't more expensive than the .40 mags, IIRC?

9mm full-cap mags (15 round) and .40 full-cap mags (13 round) are both about $40. HK Factory 10-rounders for both calibers are $10. I'd say that's a pretty appreciable difference. I have a handful of full-cap 9mm mags already, but I'm looking to stock up, and a 75% price cut for a 12% capacity loss seems like a no-brainer - if it works, that is.

I do agree with you about "learning an expensive lesson" though... that's why I'm asking here

Yes, the 40s do work in a 9mm.  I believe you can get 12 in a ten round 40 magazine. Thougth the last round fits very tight.  If you covert the ten round 40 magazines by cutting down the floor plate insert, you can get 12 40SW which adds up to 14 in 9mm.  I've used my modded 40SW magazines no problem what's so ever.  The 9mm ten's are really difficult to mod to high capacity.  I'd keeep them at ten.

They may work, but load a 9mm round in a .40 mag, and pull upwards on the round.  You can slide it through the feed lips without too much effort.

Do it right, and get 9mm mags.  If you look hard enough, you can find used 15 rounders for 15 bucks

This might be true with full size but not true with compact. I don't have a full size to test but have tested my compact. I must say that .40 caliber compact mags have fed reliably in my 9mm compact with 0 hiccups.

Spending $700 or more on a gun & then worrying about a few mags makes no sense to me.

I have seen 31 round mags for the USP 9 all over the internet.  They are around 129 a pop.  If you are going to get a USP, the price of the mags is not that big of a deal.
