| I want the Var 1 system, but I'm a lefty, so I'd want the safety on the right hand side. Is this something I can do myself (or at all)? |

Absolutely. Sounds like you want a V2 though, not a v10. V2 is safety / decocker on the right side of the frame, for a lefty. V10 is safety only, no decocker. You need to change out your control lever and detent plate if you want a v10. This guide will show you how to remove the control lever; get that far and reverse the steps to put it back together with the new one. It also covers the detent plate, which is one of the first things you take out. That's what will change it from a V1/V2 to a V9/10; again, I think you want a V2. We get this question often enough that I made a photo to illustrate which pin to push and what the detent plate is. You'll be removing this pin and the plate as one of the first steps in changing the control lever. This work is pretty easy; I've done it several times. However, take it to a gunsmith if you have any doubts. If you have trouble getting it back together come here and post pics and I'm sure one of us can help. |
Same control lever, different detent plate. You can order a v9/v10 detent plate from Cal's or Numrich for about $10. I also hear good things about hkpartsonline.com but haven't dealt with them. If you want to stay v2, just buy the leftie control lever. For v10, throw in the v9/v10 detent plate with your order. I personally like v9 because I prefer cocked and locked rather than being double action on my first shot. |
