Besides the weaver light rail on the P2000 and the interchangable backstrap, are there any other differences between the two pistols?  I'm looking at compact versions of each one.  Both fit my hand well, both shot well, but I'm hearing conflicting opinions, so which one do I get?

That's the P2000, right?  Or is there something else coming out?  Link?

First of all, I have a USPc .45 and a 9mm P2000. So my advice generally is GET BOTH!

My USPc has the Var. 1 trigger (DA/SA with decocker and safety), while my P2000 has the LEM trigger that I have lightened with the 2 spring replacement trick. Both are excellent weapons.

Here are some of the pros and cons of each:

USP

1. More variants
2. Has HK's unique rail system, so you have to have a special light or a bracket to mount a light or other accessory on the front.
3. The controls are similar to a 1911, and you can carry cocked and locked if you choose.
4. Has a thumb safety, which is pretty important to some people.
5. In .40 or 9mm, uses the exact same mags as the P2000.
6. If you want a .45 like I have, a USPc is the only choice between these 2 weapons.
7. This is the weapon Jack Bauer uses on 24 (in 9mm).

P2000

1. Generally comes with a LEM trigger, although Variant 3 comes with a decocker and DA/SA.
2. Does not come with a thumb safety.
3. Does not come in .45.
4. Somewhat newer design, but overall very similar to the USP.
5. Comes with ambi controls for left or right handed shooting.
6. Has the Picatiny rail system like a Glock, so add-ons work without a special bracket.

Does anyone know if the P2000 will take USP mags or vice versa?

Yes, true, but his USP 9c has a LEM kit trigger installed as I recall.  LEM kit trigger gives USP the same trigger as a P2000.  So it's not *really* a stock USP9c.

I have several USPs.  After shooting a USP with a LEM kit trigger I've converted my USP9f and USP9c to LEM kits to avoid that damnable long first DA round trigger pull.  I am leaving my USP45f in Variant 1 since I use that for competition in IDPA's Custom Defense Pistol (i.e., all .45s) category.

As I said in my original post, the USP Compact and the P2000 use exactly the same mags in .40 or 9 mm. The USP fullsize mags will not work in a USP Compact or ina P2000.

You can shoot CDP with a USP45?  I didn't realize that.  I will have to try that.  I've been shooting ESP with a 40c.

Yeppers you can.  Start out cocked and locked with safety on so you are firing single-action the whole COF.  Mags loaded to 8 plus 1 in the chamber IDPA max at start unless COF calls for downloaded start.

Sweet.  I'll have to try that.

C&L is the only way I shoot the USP.
