I understand that the sky will fall long before the internal lock in my HK ever malfunctions and causes a problem, but it still bothers me that it's in there not being used.

Anyone ever pull it out?  Any ill effects?

I've bought 4 HK's. two USP45, one USP9 and one P2000.
Malfunction? what's that?

I put all that text in the first part of my post to combat this.

If you change it out or otherwise disable it you are going to be in for a very rough ride if your pistol is ever involved in an AD where someone gets hurt.  I can hear the prosecutor now: "So Mr. Jones, you intentionally disabled or removed a built in safety device, is that correct?  Yes or no."
Remember, you will be judged by 12 people too stupid to get out of jury duty.

If you don't like the device, purchase an older (pre-lock) model.  What year did they start the internal dohickey, anyway?
