I was at a gun show this weekend, and there was a guy in the back with a table of what looked like junk laid out...upon examining his junk I noticed a P9S in .45...he said it still shot sooooo...after some dickering I bought it for a little over 300 bucks...

It has an IC date code and has Idaho fish and game on the slide...i would rate the finish at 70%, and that may be optimistic...

Mechanically...I honestly have no idea...I broke the gun down and cleaned it, and the interior looks very clean and neat...the barrel was diry, there is no wear on the outside...the rifling does not look very good to me, but I am used to 1911 barrels, i dont know if this barrel is shot, or I dont know what I have...

The cocker, slide lower lever still works....the trigger pulls...which I think may be a problem because it does this regardless of whether the safe is at fire or safe...didnt know if maybe the safety didnt block the trigger, just the firing pin, or if this was bad...

Also, I loaded the one magazine that came with it with the only .45 ammo I had around the house (Remington JHP) and it loaded the first round fine, but when I just jacked the slide the current round will hang...problem with the extractor?  magazine spring?  or do they just not like hollow points?

At any rate, any advice is welcome...I cannot decide if I just want to turn this gun or actually try and fix it up into a shooter...I have no knowledge about these myself....

Also, if anyone knows a gunsmith (preferably in VA) that works on these things I would be much obliged...

Thanks

Kev

Try shooting the gun with Ball ammo instead of JHP.

If the problem continues then you might need to replace some parts.

I have a HK P9S 9mm that I had to have some work done on it, I paid $450 for mine a few years ago, but it is a good shooter now.

If you ever decide to sell your P9S 45 let me know. I will pay you $500 for the way it is now. But, you might find that it is a real good shooter and decide to keep it.

First of all change the buffer.  If the buffer is worn out you can do serious damage to the buffer housing which is not all that cheap.  For $9 it isn't worth it.  Download a manual from here and the 9mm and .45 use the same buffers.  You can get the buffers from Marc at OPS2.
Your safety is fine.  The trigger will pull and drop the hammer with the safety on or off, but do not do this with the safety on as it will damage the pistol.  When the safety is on press down on the side cocker, pull the trigger, and slowly release the cocker.  It is all explained in the manual.
And no, the P9S is not particularly fond of HPs.  If you can find some with a small HP then it will work better but ball is best.

thanks

There were some HK P9 45 parts on Ebay and Gunbroker a few weeks ago. Also check hkpro.com. The HK P9 in 45 was a 70s vintage pistol and is designed for ball ammo. The rifling is polygonal , thats why it looks different. This was a delayed blowback pistol very similar in design to the G3 rifle. For your information, the 45 version is rare and highly sought after, most of the ones I see sell for 1000-1500 dollars in good shape.

The buffer does go all the way down inside the housing.  When I first got mine I had to use a dental pick to reach in, grab it, and pull it out.  Turns out the one in there was just as pliable as the one I replaced it with but for $9 why chance it.  While it seemed "like new" Lord only knows how many years it had been in there or what chemicals it may have come in contact with.  I replaced it anyway.
