Does anyone else find the mag realease on the USP series difficult to manipulate?

I've been thinking about getting a USP 45 so I looked at one in the PX.  But, I just couldn't seem to get the hang of the mag release consistently without seriously changing my grip on the pistol.  Is there some trick or is this something that one gets used to with practice?

I have to change my grip on the pistol somewhat to release the mag.  I've gotten used to it.

One of the benefits of the USP's system is that you can use your trig finger, your middle finger, your thumb, or any combo of finger and thumb.

I use my trig finger and thumb.  Just felt the most natural for me.  It really came in handy when I broke my thumb and had it wrapped up.  Was like I was training for a potential injury all along.

Almost everyone has trouble using their thumb for mag drops.  That is why most use either their trigger finger or index finger.  Me, I use my trigger finger.  Once you get use to it, it becomes second nature.

Yep.  Just don't switch guns.

Sometimes when I shoot my glock, I forget and try to drop the mag that way.  The first few times I did that I decided I should stick with the USP for any kind of defensive scenario.

+1 Being a lefty, I've always used my trigger finger and I find it to be a lot faster and more natural than using my thumb now that I have pistols with ambis.

Trigger finger ehh?  I'll try this out next time I look at one...or maybe rent one at the range to try it out.  Thanks .

I use my trigger finger and I've found that mag changes with the HK are way faster for me.  Dont have to change my grip at all, I just reach back and hit the release, as I slap a new mag in I reach up with that thumb and release the slide.

I use my trigger finger on my Hk P7, and Walther P99, and used it on the USP's when I had them as well.  They all have the same type mag release.  When you get use to it, it's a great system.

I can't drop my mag with just trigger finger.
Have to use finger & thumb, slow. Very hard to manipulate.
Any suggestions?

I use my middle finger to release the mag on both the USPc and P99.  Trigger finger stays along the frame just above the trigger guard.  Very comfortable and fast.

"Toss" the gun in your hand a little bit to the strong side  (butt to the Strong side, muzzle toward the weak) so that your thumb is able to reach the mag release...no real problem..it should work fine. For many shooters, the mag release or slide release does not necessarily fall directly to hand with the pistol they use...you have to make it work for YOU!
