I am looking at purchasing my first H&K, a USP Compact .40. I can get either stainless (I think CDNN still has them) or blue. Is there a great benefit to the stainless? I tend to prefer the all black look on the USP but the corrosion resistance is appealing. How durable is the bluing? Or is it a tenifer like finish? Holster wear? I can get the blue for a little better deal but I'll upgrade to SS if it's worth it.

Go for the all black - it really isn't blue.

My CCW is a USP9C and in the kydex that I'm using, I'vs seen virtually no holster wear and the all one color is a lower attention getter.

Just my .02

The HK "blued" finish is incredibly tough. If you prefer its looks, get that.

If the truth be known the HK black finish is actually more corrosion resistant than the stainless.  Even when the black wears away the HE protection is still there and in the 90 degree F salt spray test, the HE will resist rust longer than the bare stainless will.  But the stainless looks so damned good (IMHO) and shows wear a lot less than the HE does.  And, if you think you might want stainless, get it now because they are discontinued, not only from importation but also from production.  There will be no more once the guns in the supply line are gone.

Great, that's what I was hopeing. I'll get the blue then. Corrosion resistance is my main concern living in FL. Thanks guys.

I've got both, in the true ARFCOM tradition.

Everytime I think I prefer one over the other, I change my mind.
