Well so far i havent been steered wrong on this forum so here's the dilemma

I love the HK full size handguns, that was until i fired the Tactical and Mk 23 at my local range that an LEO or something like that had.  Now I'm in CA here so i have NO hope of getting a Tactical or MK 23, would it be worth getting the Expert and throwing fixed sights on it?

I already have a Glock fullsize .40 and like it a lot but it's time to get it some company, it was between HK and Sig but after shooting both i LOVE the hk.  So should i get the expert and put fixed sights on it--- or should i just go with a fullsize USP?

Caliber doesnt matter that much at this point in time as either option gives me the range of all 3 and i cant get hi-cap mags here anyway.

The only real difference between the Tac and the Expert is the slightly longer barrel and slide of the Expert and the Tac's tall sights and threaded barrel.  If you like the Tac then I think you would equally like the Expert.  You may have a problem switching the sights on the Expert over to fixed because of the way the rear sight is milled into the slide.  The entire sight is milled out in the slide rather than just the dovetail like it is on the Tac and full size.  Because the rear sight is milled deeper into the slide, the front sight is not as tall on the Expert as it would be if the sight set up on top of the slide, such as with the Tactical.  I have also heard that because the rear sight is milled into the slide, it interferes with the firing pin block so the bottom of the Experts sight is hollowed out to allow the extra room for FP block travel.  And I have heard that is not true.  Since I have not pulled my Expert's rear sight to find out I mention it only to forewarn you of a possible problem if you switch them out.
With the Expert you will get that marvelous match trigger, an ambi safety/decock (you don't get that even on the Tac) and the o-ring barrel.  Also you will get all the accuracy you can use and then some.
The USP is nice but whether it is because of the trigger not being as crisp or the non o-ring barrel, in my hands from rest the non-o-ringed USP and USPCs shoot about a half inch larger group at 25 yards than do the o-ringed pistols.
Since you are wanting to switch out the sights I assume you will be using the weapon for something other than a target/range gun?  The fish-hook front sight on the Expert is a terrible sight for CCW use because it will grab every piece of clothing it comes near, but for target work the sights that come on the Expert are wonderful and I wouldn't think of changing them.

I'm just not really a fan of the adjustable sights, it would probably only be a range/home gun but who knows, it might be a hunting accompanier as well.  and before someone says get your hands on one and shoot one, i will  im just checking options for now, ty bigbore~
