Guys
I am thinking of picking up a usp45 compact. It is SA/DA with decocker but no safety. What variant is this? If I want to add the safety to make it V1, what parts do I need, are the parts easy to get and is it easy to do? Thanks |

It is a V3. If you are into taking your guns apart or tinkering with stuff it is an easy swap. There should be some videos on youtube or some posts on hkpro forums to help you out. All you need is a V1 detent plate. The control lever can be changed if you really want the correct safe/fire markings, but it's not necessary. Try looking at hkparts.net for the parts. |

What he said. If you want the red/white safe/fire marks, take a 1/16 drill bit and dimple the control lever and then fill the dimples with the appropriate red/white Testors model car paint.
It literally takes longer to type out the instructions to change the detent plate than to do the swap, which is why I copy/paste from file: Remove magazine. Clear barrel. Remove slide. Lower the hammer all the way down and be sure to control the hammer as you lower it so it does not slam forward. Look at the detent plate. See that little pin in there? Now, the detent plate is under slight spring tension so you need to control it as you remove it. Take a toothpick or small punch and push out the pin until it just clears the plate. Remove plate paying close attention to how it comes out. Put the new plate back in the same way the old one came out. Push back in the detent plate. Oil lightly and you are done. |
