Hi Folks,

I'm new to HK pistols, and have been shooting Desert Eagles and 1911s for years.  I picked up a HK USP 40 compact on a trade, and took it out to the range yesterday, and noticed it was shooting high and to the left.  Is this normal for this handgun, and if not, what can I do to improve it, other than aim low and to the right.  I didn't take a picture of the target, but have a generic picture of a new target.  I was aiming for the center at 25 yards out, but was hitting around the upper left diamond.  This is a 100 yard target (14x14).

It's the Indian, not the Arrow.

If you're used to higher calibers, then you're going to adjust your grip for a .40, which is a much lighter shooting round.

I probably should have been clearer, I normally shoot a Baby Eagle .40, I shouldn't have said Desert Eagle, sorry about the confusion, and took this on trade on a XD40 which was my regular range gun, so I'm not a stranger to shooting 40.  The ammo I'm using is Aquilla 180gr FMJ, the same I always use.

HK uses "dead on hold" aka "cover up" hold when sighting their handguns. When the sights are all lined up evenly Point of Impact will be BEHIND the front sight and NOT on top of the front sight/dot like other manufacturers use.

let me try that, see if I have an improvement, but if that's true, then I should be GTG.  I'll post next week to let you know how it goes.  I spoke with a cop buddy of mine, and he thinks its the trigger throwing me off.  I have a Law Enforcement model, and he said it uses a different trigger than the standard model.  I'm not sure if he's correct about the different triggers, but i agree that the trigger is unlike any of my other pistols, so there is merit to what he's saying.

You don't have a special, limited edition "Law Enforcement model".  That's where he is wrong.  But the trigger variant you have is indeed called the "Law Enforcement Modification" trigger, usually referred to as LEM.  Search YouTube for "LEM Description" for info about it.

It's a very different trigger system, but many of us have grown to love it.  It is likely the problem you are having.  I can pretty much guarantee you that there isn't a mechanical issue with your gun unless you are having sight misalignment issues and such.
