I've got a guy that wants to sell a set of colt saa pistols, and I don't know enough about them to judge their value.
Here's the details: One is a .45 LC, and the other is a .22 Lr. They are 46 years old and never fired. They come in a wooden presentation box. On the box on one side it has Ulysses S. Grant and on the other side Robert E. Lee. Any help on how much they may be worth is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

This one is a tough call.
The only Grant and Lee sets I can find were a set of 1851 Navy black powder models issued in 1971. These were issued as single guns, one for Grant and one for Lee, and as a set of both cased together. Again, these were 1851 Navy models. The usual standards on commemorative values is that they have to be absolutely new in the original box, with any outer box or sleeve and all papers that came with it. There are a good many .22 SAA commemoratives around, and few are worth much over the purchase price. However, the Colt SAA center fire commemoratives are usually worth a good bit more than the purchase price. Since I can't find any info on a .45/.22 Grant and Lee set, I assume it's a very low issue item, so the price may well be up there. Before buying, you need to do some serious investigating to determine just when these were made, what the issue price was, and HOW MANY sets were made. A possible good resource would be the Colt Collectors Association. http://www.coltcollectors.com/ |

I appreciate all the help. I searched gunbroker and gunsamerica the other evening and didn't find anything.
The problem I'm dealing with is distance. I'm 2 1/2 hours from the seller - also I'm communicating through my father to the guy - so, I am trying for pics and more details. I'll post what happens with the sell. Thanks |
