I just picked up a Colt Elite Ten Forty in mint condition that was on consignment at my local fun shop. For those who don't know, the Elite Ten Forty was a short run of the Combat Elite that came with both a 40 SW barrel and a 10 MM barrel, as well as the appropriate recoil springs and mags for both calibers. On mine, it looks like the owner never used the 40 cal barrel and barely shot the 10 mm. The serial number is 1040E3XX. The only downside is that the owner replaced the Colt grips with hogue wraparounds. So, I will have to change those out.

Ok, here's my question. Since the barrel markings differ from my other Colt, how would I know if the barrels are factory Colt? The only markings that I can see are along the top of the barrel hood. They look like this - Cal 40 S&W - and - Cal 10 MM - . The other markings are "p" on one side and an "m" on the other side of the bottom of the barrel, near the feedramp.

Thanks, guys.

Those marking sound like Colt markings - same marks on lower and caliber on hood. I can't see why there'd be suspicion they were changed unless he told you they were or gave you some reason to believe it?

Thank you for the replies. The fun shop owner did not give me a reason to suspect that the barrels were changed. He just didn't know why the barrels weren't marked "colt" like the 45 caliber guns.

I can't wait to shoot this pistol. The shop owner gave me threw in some 40 caliber snap caps and a box of 10 mm to sweeten the deal. As soon as the weekend rolls around, I will put a few rounds down range.

Must not be a high-volume Colt dealer or around for many years.  Asking for consistency from Colt is like getting blood from a stone.  Not putting down the product at all (I love them), but they wander all over the map with names, models, marketing, features, etc.

Sounds like a nice find.  I have been kinda wanting one of those myself.  If I may be so impolite, what did he make you pay for it?

I am not sure if this was a good deal or not since I've never seen an Elite Ten Forty being sold before, but the dealer was asking $995. I talked him down to $975 out the door. Since the pistol didn't come with the correct grips or the manual, he threw in three new 40 S&W snap caps and a box of American Eagle 10 MM. I had my Sig 228 as a trade in, so my out of pocket wasn't that bad.

Personally I think it sounds like a decent deal. I have seen some ask silly prices, that sounds more like what I would think would be a fair price.  I am pretty value conscious on gun purchases, but a Ten-Forty under $1k sounds pretty good.
