Which model, they had a I and II?

I have a Double Eagle I, it shoots pretty, takes like 80% of 1911 parts. Uses standard 1911 mags. In DA the trigger is a bit stiff, but still manageable. In SA mode the trigger is pretty good.

If you take off one of the grip panel, the little coil spring that help keeps the DA trigger bar in place will fall out. But it is a biggie to put back.

The II version was supposed to take care of some of the I's shortcomings.

Not sure, I will go check it out again tommorrow.. 540 seems reasonably priced after looking at gunbroker.

I'd buy the gun because I like it or appreciate the oddity, not for any other reason. A Remington Rand or Ithica M1911A1 was nothing more than a used surplus pistol for about 50 years before the market finally caught up with it. For me it's fugly and hard to find parts. I can easily think of 2 dozen pistols I'd rather throw $500 at.

I have a full size & an officer's model, both are keepers & 100% reliable, even with old WW silver tip hollow points.
At the shows around here they go for about $750 in nice shape.
The mag, barrel & bushing, slide stop, mag release & sights are the same as a Govt. model, not much else.
Sharp edges & some slide to frame slop may be evident but don't let that scare you as A lot of Govt. model Colts do that too.
Dropped a Bar-Sto barrel in my full size, (5 inch) now it's ever more awesome.

Very

Does the De-cocker lever give you an "idiot scratch"?  I don't mean that in a bad way!  It just looks like the same place a 1911 newb puts a scratch!.

That decocking idiot scratch can be avoided by either bending or grinding that portion of the lever so it rubs more under the grip.
It does seem odd that a simple thin spacer washer designed into that piece would have precluded that scarring.
As I have heard the early versions had no decocker, amongst other problems, so it may have been an engineering afterthought.

For some reason I have always wanted a double eagle...

I would like one in a commander length... Does anyone know if a DAO conversion was ever done? or if it would smooth up the trigger pull some more?

Trigger is plenty smooth, but a bit on the stiff side.
