Any good information on this model, Colt 01980XSE?

Good gun.  This is the "enhanced" line with the added bells/whistles - extended safety, target trigger, FLGR, FCS, Novak sights, etc.  I have a recent one of those but commander and the base model (1991 series, not the enhanced).  The barrel fit to the bushing/slide and to the lugs of the slide is top-drawer.  The slide/frame is OK, but that's not a critical part of the accuracy.  The trigger was superb - once broken in, a clean and crisp 3.5/4 lbs - as good a factory trigger I've ever seen on any 1911 ever, 80 Series safety or not.  Mine was a 2007 build/model.

If the 1991 is that good, the XSE model would be the same or better.  Based on this gun and other user comments and guns I have seen, colt is building the best "out of the box" 1911 for the money these days.  They have a cool "new" model you might want to look at, to.  The "Combat Elite" which is a re-introduction of a factory model from the late 80s.  It is also an XSE with the same basic features as that.  Very nice looking gun and owner reviews have been very positive. It has been out since last winter.

I have the combat commander version of the same gun. I'm happy with mine and I would like to get a government to go along with it. The only issues that I have is that the sights are not novaks but champions and the rear sight set screw worked loose allowing the sight to drift. I had to press it back and rezero then put lock tight on it to hold the screw in. Also I am not a fan of the full length guide rod so I will be ditching that as well. Also I replaced my grip safety with a wilson drop in beavertail. It allows for a higher grip then the colt factory ducktail.

Any more info on the Colt 01980XSE model such as range time and mags used with it such as wilson or chips?

Just picked one not too long ago and have about 400 rounds through it as of now. So far most everything has been good, one round failed to chamber fully (wolf 230 grain FMJ, the cheap stuff I know). have only been using three Wilson 8 round mags to see how it does before I go and mess with too many different mags/other things. Only change as of now is a Wilson ambi safety but I need to get rid of the Colt grip safety as it starts to bite into my hand after about 75 rounds or so. One problem was the screw on the rear sight started to walk out on me as well but I found that out before it got lost. As to the one piece full length guide rod I don't mind it one bit, to it being harder to push down I just use a shell casing, coin or even the base of a magazine to help things along - and I feel that it even helps when putting the thing back together as I am able to use it to help keep the barrel link in place as I go . It is a sharp edged gun so keep that in mind if looking to carry. All in all I am very happy with it.

Hope this helps.

I have the LW XSE Commander model from this year. I put about 300 rounds through it of WWW, lead reloads, and various HP. Not one malfunction with Checkmate, Tripp, and Shooting Star mags. It is quite accurate and the trigger is pretty good for factory. Now the bad side...

Went back to Colt on July 27. It was showing a dust cover rub that I was going to ignore until I took the grips off and 2 of the bushings came out on the same grip and the right side of the safety fell out. Still don't have it back.

I would buy another because I do think it is a good example of the Commander but I don't see Colt's current attention to detail as high as it should be.

I also have the lightweight commander model, It is my CCW of choice right now.  Has been 100% reliable and fit and finish were excellent, except you can shave with the edges.  Do not care for the ambidextrous safety but i am learning to live with it.   After all the bad stuff you hear about colt these days this gun left me with a high opinion of their products, enough that a few months later a defender followed me home.
