Anyone have one of the new production Series 70s?  Observations, insights, opinions?  TIA.

I played with one in a gun shop.  One of the nicer Colts Ive ever seen.

I picked up the new 80 2 weeks ago, I like the 80 a bit more than the 70, but the new 70's look and feel great

Why do you like the 80 more?  Does the trigger safety bother you?  I would just rather not have any unnecessary design changes like the trigger safety of the 80 or the extrernal extractors that everyone else seems to be coming out with.  I like to stay as true to the original internal design as possible.

Other than the roll marks and FPS, they should look the same.
Admittedly, Colt has some catching up to do, IMO.
I got used to the FPS, you can't tell there is any on my '80s.

When the FPS was first introduced there was concern about durability and parts breakage. Since that time it's become a non issue.

As far as combat triggers the series 80 can be tuned just as clean and crisp as a series 70.

I never thought there was a real problem with them.  Especially considering you can get good trigger jobs on them.  However, I just don't want to deal with two different system 1911s.  I choose only to use 1911's with series 70 internals.

I have bought 2 new series 70 in the last year and a series 80, all were in 5" blue.  I think without a doubt colt is making some of the best guns they have made in 20 years if not more.  While they don't have the options and variety of some of the other makers they are still concentrating on regaining a market segment and doing it without skimping on the quality of parts.  I wouldn't trust a MIM slide stop, like some other manufactures use.  The series 70 does have a little more attention to detail as it comes out of their custom shop. They are also one of the only options if you want a beautifully blued pistol.  THey also come with great looking walnut grips.  While I am fine without a firing pin saftey, the series 80 design is proven unlike the swartz in the smiths and kimbers.  Smith had a recall, kimber just fixes them when they break.  Of course in either system you can just remove the parts.
