| I am having trouble fitting my 5" XSE in a holster. i tried two leather holsters i have, bianchi pancake style and a mitch rossen inside the belt style. the 45 will slide into the holsters tight but will not come out of the mitch rossen unless i use both hands, and it is also dificult to get it out of the bianchi. My wwII remington rand 1911 works fine in both holsters. Has anyone else ran into to this problem with the XSE? the XSE must be thicker than the RR? any suggestions on a good conealment holster that the XSE is known to fit? |

Holster makers are having problems these days due to the variations in the size of 1911s by different makers. They usually fit holsters to an aluminum mold made to standard Colt/GI guns, and models made by different makers or different models of guns are often too tight. To fit your gun to the holster, wrap the gun with a sheet of either plastic wrap or waxed paper, wax side out and holster the gun. Let stand for from 1 or 2 hours to overnight in extreme cases. Remove and unwrap the gun and test fit. If it's still too tight re-wrap with 2 layers and re-holster for a few hours. This will stretch the holster JUST enough to fit properly but NOT so much that the holster is over-stretched and ruined. Don't over do this, since all good new holsters are a little tight until you break them in. Over doing it will make the holster too loose when it is fully broken in and will significantly reduce the holster's service life. A holster is worn out when the gun starts to move and shift in the holster, and isn't held firmly in place. When this happens, the service life is over NO MATTER HOW GOOD IT LOOKS. Most people use a holster far past it's service life, because it still looks good. Over doing the break in stretching as above, will reduce the service life. DO NOT wet the holster with ANYTHING, and DO NOT apply ANY kind of "leather dressing". These will cause the holster to soften and stretch out, and will RUIN it. The ONLY thing to apply to a holster is a good coat of neutral shoe wax. Do the above fitting process until the gun is still just a little too tight, then finish the break in by holstering the gun and wearing the holster around the house for a day or two. |
