I've got an old Colt 1911A1 in the safe with some extras that I would like to know an approximate value on from a collectors view. It's a WWII gun made in 1944 I think s/n 1176844. It's parkerized with the brown plastic grips. It has all the normal factory markings plus a few others I don't know what they stand for. On the left side of the pistol there is a "AA" above the trigger guard on the frame, a "1" with a triangle on the front of the trigger guard, a "P" next to the mag release button and a "GHD" along the upper frame next to the grip panel. On the right side are the usual proof marks, united states property M1911A1 U.S. Army. There is also a "35" on the right side of the trigger guard. Overall the gun has some wear because it was carried in the field, but is in very very good condition. I purchased it from the original owner who carried it in the War and had it released to him by the Gov't when he retired. Included as extras are the cardboard box with storage/wrapping papers it was in while with the military and a triplicate receipt from the Red River Army Depot Texarkana Texas releasing the pistol to him for $12.50 in 1950. What is this gun worth approximately? I can send pics to your email if you need. I'm not looking to get rid of it, just know it's value. Thanks,Shaun |

Folks are paying the better part of $900 to have a "real" GI type 1911. They can only go up in price, so I would say sit on it and enjoy the historic value, while you shoot it. True, the sights may suck or the trigger pull may leave something to be desired...but it is an historic piece of history. Better than money in the bank, IMHO. |
