I recently got one of these. It seems to be a good, tight revolver that locks up nicely. Are these old revolvers considered to be safe to use with modern ammo?

Absolutely.........they were designed for GI hardball. Have fun.

Modern ammo should be okay but I would avoid using the +P or +P+. An occassional hot round should be fine but they weren't designed for it. On the other side, it wasn't that easy to calculate forces back then so they generally overbuilt to be on the safe side.
