I want an older Gold Cup.
What is the diff between pre 70 series and 70 series? Which production years are hand fit and most accurate? Thanks Vonb |

The pre-70 Series had a solid barrel bushing, while the 70 Series had a fingered or collet bushing. The pre-70 Series also had weight taken out of the slide which weakened it, and made it inappropriate for use with factory ammo. A few of the early 70 Series were reported to have the lightened slides as well. I'm led to believe that the days of "hand fitting" were lost when the 70 Series was introduced in 1970 and anything after that is pretty much a crapshoot. That said, I have 1911s from most of the higher end limited production 1911 mfgrs, and for reasons I can't explain I can outshoot them all with my 1982 S70 GCNM.
For a shooter, I'd look for an all original 70 Series. |
