Hello all, my new Combat Commander's rear sight is loose, Does anyone know what size of allen key do you need in order to tighten the rear sight?  Also, should I use locktight(blue)?  Thanks in advance for your reply

What sight do you have on your gun?  Do you see an allen screw in the sight?

Stock Commander XS's have a standard series 80 2 dot rear.  There is no screw.  I'm wondering if you have a Novak rear.  If so, it's a 1/16" allen head.  Most 1911 sights with a set screw use this size.  Blue loctite is fine for these types of sights, as long as there is a screw.

If it's a standard sight, the loctite will shoot loose quickly, and will be of no real use.  There are several remedies for this if it's a standard rear sight.   If the rear sight is undersized, you can simply find another rear sight cheap, and replace it.  You can also stake a small divet or two in the underside of the dovetail on the sight itself, or you can punch a small divet or two in the middle of the bottom of the dovetail of the slide, and re-install.

If the dovetail of the slide itself is oversized, which I have seen many times on Colts, the best thing you could do is go to an aftermarket sight, like the Novak or Heinie that require milling of the slide.

Thanks, the XS's were the first run so they came with Novak style sights.  The XSE used the standard sights.  I'll try a 1/16th, thanks!

I'd suggest using Green Locktite rather than Blue & NEVER use Red!
