I have recently received a Combat Commander in 9mm. It is a 70 series, 70B prefix. ( produced between 81 and 83 if my research is correct ) With it I also received a .38 super conversion barrel. However, the barrel length on the conversion is 5 inches. ( the original 9mm barrel is 4.25 inches, of course ) I was assuming this was the wrong conversion kit due to the length. Then I installed it, just for fun. The weapon will hand cycle and feels correct with the conversion installed. There is .75 inches of barrel sticking out. The conversion barrel bushing is also installed and fits up very well with the slightly flared end ( bell shaped flare ) that is present at end of the .38 super barrel. The question becomes, is this the correct conversion or do I need to searching for 4.25 conversion? Second question, I have been picking up on possible reliability issues with some production runs of 9mm commanders. Which ones, however, remains a mystery to me. Any help with this issue would be helpful. Any other information, no matter how elementary you may consider it, would be appreciated. Thanks |
