Sorry to hear about your issues. Here is what my experience has been with my P22.
I stay away from Winchester Wildcat ammo.. those performed way worse in my gun compared to the CCI and 333 ammo i shoot through mine (can;t remember the 333 brand, but you can't miss the numbers on the box). The CCI and 333 are copper jacketed; the Wildcat is not (lead bullet exposed). I also noticed that this gun is pretty sensitive to limb-wristing. This seems to result in FTF's. Obviously the slide sticking open is an issue, but there might be secondary issues to keep in mind. Okki |

Regarding ammo: my P22 is very finicky about ammo. Any Federal ammo (high velocity red box, blue box, american eagle) doesn't work well in my P22. I've had the best luck with Remington Thunderbolt and regular plated Remington green box. I tried Winchester white box and wildcat and can't remember the results.
Ammo issues may explain a few of your P22's issues, but not all. Try different ammo to find what your gun likes. It's picky. |
| Thanks for the replies. To date, I've tried six different types of plated, HV ammunition in this gun. It likes CCI Velocitor and Mini Mags the most, but still has issues even when shooting that ammo. It definitely runs the worst with Federal 40 gr and Winchester Super-X 36 gr. With any ammunition, it seems to be a very inaccurate gun. I'm no stranger to modifying/upgrading firearms but I find what I read on the P22 Bible and How I made my P22 Not Suck a little ridiculous just to make the thing run like it should have out of the box, so we've decided to send it back to Walther America for repair and sell it as soon as it returns. |

My thoughts exactly! I'm used to having guns run well from the first shot right out of the box. I'll keep mine for a while and see if I can get it to work better, but may eventually sell it in order to get something different. Fortunately for me, my issues mostly seem to be ammo related. I still don't think it's very accurate, but it's accurate enough for my kids to learn with. That's what I got it for really, and it fits the bill. I was hoping for something more refined and reliable so I could have fun with it. Oh well, live and learn. |

Mine also jammed a lot right out of the box. I smoothed the hammer just a little with a very light file and some emery cloth to stop it from hanging up. After about 200 rounds break in the pistol will feed any 22 ammo and does not jam any more. Mine also seems to eject the brass randomly. |
