Did the PP (.22 variant) ever come in two-tone.  I'm looking at a nice one but it's two tone and I suspect it's been customied.

Short answer, yes.
PPs could be ordered with any manner of custom finish from the factory.

Long answer, it would be very difficult to substantiate the gun as a factory variation without accompaning proof papers.

Without any documenting paperwork the pistol is worth no more than any other PP in comparable condition.

I disagree
I have never seen a factory PP .22lr or as a matter of fact seen any other PP in two-tone
they were either blued, nickel, silver or gold
non of my Interarms price lists or catalogs show a option for custom order or show "two tone"
I might be wrong, but it should be easy to tell.... there was no chrome finish at Walther so if the gun is chromed its aftermarket, if its nickel it might be harder

However if you want the 100% correct answer, go to the P38forum post is the PP/PPK postwar section with the header

This one also has a stippled front and backstrap.  Very well done though.

So is the lower chromed and stippeled ??
if so it is not factory
You can't go wrong with a .22lr PP...it's one fun shooter... but mags are up there when you find any...

Never say never.

James Rankin's volume one page 131 of his three volume Thome' on Walther pistols shows a factory produced two tone PPK.
They are not common, but they are out there.
A stippled frame is NOT a factory option I am aware of however.

Yea and if you read the text that goes with it.....
it is pre war and the frame is in the white

And now you are arguing for the sake of arguing.

I didn't say there were ANY factory two tones out there, I said their could be and offered proof.
Whether the frame is in the white or finished, it is still two tone and the gun is in the commercial market.

I also stated in not so many words it was doubtful the pistol the OP was looking at was original and there would be no way of documenting that fact without factory proof which isn't going to happen since the vast majority of verifying factory documents were destroyed during world war two.

The gun is worth what the market will offer, which is somewhere between $400 and $800, rough guess.
I paid $400 for my Manurhin made PP.22 and it is one of my favorite rimfire pistols.

I wasn't argueing... just stating the fact
a "in the white gun" that was left in the white due to the war is not a factory two tone as you made it sound in your post.... it was left in the white

but if you want to ... I am willing to argue it now
