My dad just picked up one for $200 from a friend. I have read that these pistols have had some problems. Is there a range of serial numbers that were affected or is it pretty much all of them? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The year code is on the right side; it will be A-something.  AK=2009, AI=2008, AH=2007, AG=2006, etc.  (Yes, they skipped AJ.)  I can't remember exactly, but I think most of the issues got worked out around AE or something like that.

What year is yours?

I don't know, I'm up at school and I can't visibly see the gun. I'll ask my dad and try to tell him how to locate it later. Where is the date cod located on the Walther? I know on my HKs it's on the slide.

I don't have any problems with mine at all. It's was manufactured about 18 months ago.  I think some of the older ones had some mag problems.. Might try a new mag if he is having FTF.

Sorry, guys let me try this again. My dad literally picked up the gun two days ago now and has not shot it yet. I am not home and have not seen it so I don't know what the date code is. I had read that some of the older ones had problems and was trying to get an idea what date code range they were in and what the problems were/what the fix(es) were.

Here's a picture of mine; you can see the "AI" date code:

Good work.  So, it may require a little tweaking, but nothing to worry too much about.

I would suggest:

1) Download and read through the P22 Bible.  If you'd just like to get started with a good mod, polish the trigger bar ears.  If not, skip to step #2.
2) Go shoot it!  If it works fine, and you don't want to mess with the gun just for fun, then you're good to go.
3) If you have problems, look at some of the mods in the bible.
4) Read through the stickies and some of the posts here.

Let us know how it works for you.  If you want your best shot at reliability when you first start shooting it, use CCI Mini-Mags.

Thanks for the replies guys. When I get home from school, about three weeks unless I go home next weekend, I'll take it out to the range and put some rounds through it. I'll post a range report and let you know how it did.
