1st gen has the smalller serations on the slid shorter mag release and different rail. with a ski slope in trigger guard
2nd gen has the updated larger slide serations same short mag release with updated picatiny rails with no slope in trigger gaurd 3rd gen is pretty much the same as the 2nd gen but with the addition of the longer extended mag release. there is a two letter date code on the the under side of the barrel( between rail and trigger guard0 I dont remeber the coding but if you search the net you should be able to tell what year it was made by the letter sequnce Below are examples of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen p99's the 1st gen and 3rd gen are photos i borrowed from member here I hope they dont mind and the 2nd gen is mine.also Notice the difference in the slides 2 have a sllope on the slides these are 9mm while one does not have slope on slide it is a 40s&w photo credits to:sd307 and Shipwreck http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/rmiles321/1stgen.jpg http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/rmiles321/p99.jpg http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/rmiles321/3rdgen.jpg Als |

Date Codes:
the two letters indicate the last two digits of the year of production, A = 0 B = 1 C = 2 D = 3 E = 4 F = 5 G = 6 H = 7 I = 8 K = 9 for example, the "2nd Gen" began production in 2004, so the date code for these pistols would be AE (04) through AI (08). |
