I'm not sure if this post is better suited here or in the Ruger forum. I was hoping you all could help me out. I currently have a brand new Ruger P95 with less than 200 rds through it. I have a buddy who has a P99 subcompact and hates it. He's had it for a few years but has hardly put any rounds through it because of how it fits in his hands. I was talking to him about how I think my P95 is too big to carry and I was looking to get a smaller gun. He mentioned he had his Walther and that if I was interested he'd swap me. Both guns are 9mm. I like my Ruger but really want something that is less bulky. From what I can tell the P99 is a great gun but I don't really know a lot about the gun other than what I have read looking through all these posts. Any pros or cons about doing the deal? Anything I should look for or keep in mind as I look at his gun? He's offered to let me take the gun to the range and try it out.
Thanks in advance for the responses. |

I love mine. Fine out if it's QA or AS. I haven't been impressed with the QA that I've shot.
The P99c is able to accept P99 full size mags and they sell a grip extension that basically turns it into a full size pistol. I carry the compact IWB with a ten round mag and I carry a full size 15 round as back up. It is small in my hands for sure with just the ten round but I'm still able to shot it well. I'd take him up on the offer to take it to the range and see if you like it. If it's the AS model they are going anywhere from $550 to $650 new. I'm not sure how much your Ruger is worth (or if that's even a concern). Good luck! |

Thanks for all the replies. I am leaning towards doing the deal as well. It will be a clean swap because to him the gun is pretty much useless. I'll take it out to the range and unless I absolutely hate it, make the deal. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Thanks again! |

We made the swap last week after we both shot each others guns at the range. I really liked the P99 and didn't think it felt too small in my hands. It is a big difference than my Ruger. I open carried it most of the weekend and really noticed the difference in size and weight. I know someone asked which P99 it was and it is the P99c AS. He also had 2 additional magazines.
I do plan on carrying it concealed, which holster do you all recommend for that? Thanks again for all the help! |

I used to have a P99c that I carried concealed for 3 years. It's no longer made, but I used an OWB leather Bianchi 7L for it. It was a holster for the regular P99, but there was only like a 1/2" of extra leather at the end of the holster. You will have a much easier time finding a holster if you just look for a fullsize P99 holster. When I carried a Glock 26 for 8 years prior to that, I was actually using a Galco FLETCH holster for a Glock 19. Worked fine.
