Just wanted to see how many like and prefer the P-99 over the Glock, Springfield XD, and other polymer framed handguns. I think the overall fit and feel is superior to the other polymers out there, although I haven't held the H&K P-2000 yet. Tell me what you guys and gals think. |
|
I like the P99 grip over the other "plastic" guns. The replaceable backstrap really makes a difference in comfort, if you install the correct one. HK's, even the P2K always seem to have more of a "2x4" profile grip. They're more squared off than most. I've owned and carried the G-19 and G-17 and they were nice, but felt odd to me. I have held the XD and I liked it. I haven't shot one though. In the end, I still like the P99 grip better. As far as how well they work, they all seem to do just fine. Ross |
I agree. The Glock, to me, is unrefined. YMMV. I've heard of Walther having problems with their magizines. I own a O.D. P-99 in .40 and have yet to have any problems. But I probably have less than 50 rounds through it. So what do guys think about the new style P-99A.S. with the new rounded out trigger guard? I like the older style better but the new ones starting to grow on me. I also like the new P-99 compact. |
|
I haven't checked out the new model P99's yet. Haven't fired a glock or xd either. When I got my P99 I had a sig 226 and an HK USP 45. I didn't really like the trigger feel as much on the P99 as either of those others, but I hit what I was aiming at more often. It's definitely a handgun I will hang on to. |
| I have a P99QA model that I picked up several months ago. I find the grip to be very comfortable, and I really like the trigger. That particular model has a constant trigger pull weight first shot to last. It fits my hand better than my HK's, but I think my full size 9mm and compact 357sig have a slight edge in accuracy. I would definitely recommend it to another shooter. |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the QA a double action only type trigger whereas the regular trigger on my P-99 like DA/SA? Mine also has the decocker. I don't think the QA has this and it wouldn't need one if the trigger has a constant pull shot after shot, right? I would like to fire a couple downrange with QA to see how it feels.

| I really like the size and feel of the P99...I just shot one today for the first time in a long time, and it felt nice. I like the mag release, and the decock feature (however I'm not that fond of the double action...maybe because I'm not used to it). Overal, I like it about as well as the Glock (I just am really fond of the 17) and better than the XD (feels and looks too bulky IMHO). |
The QA does have a decocker but it's not as big as the one on the DA/SA models. When depressed, it releases the striker from a 35% cocked position IIRC. |
| Longtrail - You are correct that the QA is a DA only trigger set. Brewsky is also correct in that the QA does have a decocker, but it is built in to the slide (on the top left near the grip serrations) and it does completely decock the striker. I have never had a chance to fire a standard DA/SA P99, but I do like the trigger on the QA. If you have the opportunity, you should try firing them both side by side to see which one is more comfortable for you. |
I plan on purchasing one of the new style P-99's in the coming months, I will try and fire both style triggers if I get the opportunity. Has anyone had any reliability problems with their P-99's such as magazine breakage? I think that Walther has Meggar to produce their mags. Like I said above my P-99 is low mileage so I haven't had any problems. BTW- it seems there are a few people out there that do at least like the P-99, and some that, like me, that think it's the best thing since pockets on a shirt. |

Although not a Walther owner - my brother-in-law just picked up a P99 Military - the black and green one. It's his first handgun - and after handeling it for a bit, it seems pretty nice. The black/green look is sharp, and the grip fits my hand better than the XD. He tried a XD, Glock, Beretta and 1911 before buying the Walther. It just fit his hands better. Av. |

I've had the P99 9mm since mid 2002. Most of my friends never could hit the paper consistently with it. Except the Ex-Norway military friend. He is a dead shot at 50ft. I've always done just fine at 7yds with the P99, not bad a 50ft. For bullseye with a 9mm, I like the Hi Power, for 45ACP, it's the 1911! |
I just can't bring myself to put any thing like that on my P99. I change the config. of my guns so often, I'd probably end up trying to take it off at some point and then I'd have a big mess. |
Hey, that looks like mine, except for where yours says Walther USA LLC. mine says Smith & Wesson. |
Did you get that from Earl? |
| I picked it up at a fun show in San Antonio. The dealer was selling it as "used" next to several higher priced ones that were new. I asked to make sure, because it certainly didn't look used and he insisted it was. I'm still not convinced it was at the time, but it certainly is now! |

If shopping for one..... For those who prefer the pre-2004 look & design of the P99, like I do, I saw this one online... www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=6048001 (I'm not sure if gun shops still have this design model P99, or they all have the new "improved" design, that some do not like) |
Whatchoo talkin' bout, Willis? I looked at Walther's site and I don't see any changes. Pics? |

The slide has been redesigned, shape and serrations. The trigger guard is also different. Click on the pistol for a view of the four models. www.carl-walther.de/englisch/defense/defense-36.html More: www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150425&highlight=p99 www.praxagora.com/lunde/WaltherP99FAQ/VIII/10.html -Enjoy! |
Replaced the PPK as the new 007 gun... 'Bond, James Bond' Other than that, it's a unique plastic pistol, doesn't it have the ability to cock/decock without cycling the slide? |
