I see they make several models. I'm not much of a revolver guy, never owned one, but my father owned a Taurus many years ago, that he gave away, that was perfect.

I'm looking for something to occasionally take out pig/boar, but generally for something to carry once a year that overpowers the .45acp.

Having said that, I don't need anything too expensive since I will rarely use it.

Two I was looking at this pm. What would the recoil difference between the two be? The first being 6.5", the latter having the 8.375" length.

Can anyone tell me about these two revolvers?

Thanks

I own the exact same revolver in your first link. Recoil is not as bad as most people think. Very good quality gun, despite what the Taurus haters say. Remington 180 grain JSP ammo is nasty concerning muzzle blast and flash, especially in low light conditions, under a shed.

I paid $535 out the door for mine. A nice reliable, well built revolver for the money. Buy it. You won't be dissapointed.

I've never hunted with it, but I do have plenty of Winchester 240 grain JSP and 20 rounds of Black Hills 300 grain JHP ammunition. If it were me hunting, I would use any of the modern 240 grain loadings. Just my opinion.

Perhaps some .44 mag hunters can post some loads that work for them.

I had a Model 44, back when they first came out, around '93 or so. 6 1/2" ported barrel & that thing was brutal with full-power loads. At the time, there were no aftermarket grips for it & about 3 - 4 cylinders was all I could stand to run thru it at a sitting.

To me, the porting did exactly what it was supposed to do- control muzzle flip. It had almost no flip/rise. Instead, the recoil came straight back, beating the piss out of my palm.

Nice gun & I did actually enjoy shooting it (in small doses). Maybe the aftermarket grips available now would take some of the edge off that beast.
