hello;
what you all think of the taurus pt-22? thanks for any input. rp |
| Nice little pistol for what they are. The tip up barrel is great and as long as you keep them clean they run well. Accurate out to about 15 yards or so. Mine has worked with just about any ammo you can run through it, even some of that crappy Russian steel case stuff floating around a few years ago. The only draw back is do not feed it a steady diet of high velocity or hyper velocity ammo. I split the slide on mine shooting that hot Aguila stuff.(Taurus repaired it but sent a nasty note saying not to shoot hyper velocity ammo in it) Stingers might be OK for carry but stick to the bulk stuff for plinking. |

I bought one last summer. Had some issues with too much up and down play in the mag. Gun would work with the mag held down, but my grip could hold the magazine up too high, and the gun would jam alot! Had to make a shim to fit the mag to keep it down when locked into the gun.
The little DA only auto also experiences light strikes. The light strike issue is worse with some ammo, and almost(but not quite!) nonexistant with other brands. A google search showed a number of complaints about jamming and light hammer hits. You cant' just jack the slide to get rid of a dud. The pistol has no extractor! Must tip the barrel to remove a dud. Most light strikes will fire with the second hammer hit, so duds are not all that big an issue for plinking. I don't think I would want to rely on a Taurus PT-22 for much beyond plinking. The little gun really looks like a well made piece. Nicely made and finished. Shoots great for a small DA only .22 pistol as far as accuracy goes. Once I figured out the sloppy magazine fit, feed and ejection has been good. The light strikes sort of killing the gun for me as a potential casual carry gun. The PT-22 is a plinking/fishing carry gun. I wouldn't want to try fight my way out of a biker bar with one!! |
