I picked up a blued 2" 617 used. Everything checked out fine on it. I was actually impressed by the check out. .030 gap, tight lock up, barrel and cylinder aligned fine.
Shot great. But I keep finding all these horror stories about timing and breakage. Has anyone actually had these problems with an all steel 617? Thanks, Dave |

I've owned a stainless 617 for 8 years, bobbed hammer( double action only) and no ports. It always goes to the range with me so it has more than a few rounds through it,all .357. Cylinder lock up is tight, timing is spot on. I practice torso shots out to 25 yards with it. Head shots out to 15. Puts rounds were I want them. I'm not as sensitive to a gritty or heavy trigger pull as some. So,for me the dao trigger pull is long but is as smooth as my S&W 686. I'm quite happy with mine. |
| I just bought one for occasional pocket carry and fun range plinking. Really like the idea of 7 shots of .357 or .38 +P. So far I have only put 50 rounds of .38 +P and about 80 rounds of .357 through it. I agree that it has a heavy trigger in double action. However, I found the pull some what smooth. My cylinder release came a little loose but I just tightened it back down. We will see if there are more problems as I shoot it. |
| My 617 has been flawless for about 800 rounds and then the cylinder fell out when putting in bullets. The spring loaded screw that holds the cylinder pivot had the button fall out. I reinstalled it and it has been fine since. My other three semi's have had no trouble and my judge has been fine also. All but the judge have over 1000 rounds through them. |
| Ive owned several Taurus's over the years and have always had good luck with them. The only revolver I ever had trouble out of was a brand new one, right out of the box it would shave a little lead, timming was just a touch off. I returned it to Taurus they fixed it and sent it back and its been running fine ever since (about 14 years now!). |
| I have a 627 6.5" 357. I've had a bit over 1k rounds through it (rough guess), everything from weak 38s to full house 1800fps 357s and no problems whatsoever. Honestly, I was surprised at the quality. It won't be as butter as a S&W, but theyre a great value for the revolver you get IMO. |
