My children are coming to live with me for the next 6 months or so, and while I plan to have a gun safety discussion with them, I am also planning on purchasing a gun safe to keep my XD45 in. What is a good small safe? The gun store I patronize has one for about $120, four-button combination that runs on batteries with a separate key backup that looks like a good deal. Unfortunatly I don't remember the brand or manufacturer offhand.

Walmart! They have Honeywell lockboxes with the punchpad and key backup for $25. You can't beat them. I drilled holes in the bottom of mine and bolted it down. It is a very good box. Go and check them out.

funny you should just mention this.  I just went down this road.
I do not disagree with the previous two posters, high end and low end.  they both work in securing your piece.  What you want is a safe that does NOT collect moisture and is solid enough, and maybe, quick in and out entry.  Sentry safe has a smaller one and a larger one than can handle about five handguns.  no bigger than a bread box.  Take a look in WalMart and then check out the net, maybe Amazon, for pricing

I just started a new company manufacturing a biometric safe.  Take a look at www.LockSAF.com.  If you are interested, PM me.  Thanks!
