I can't stand the 8" barrel on my Ruger redhawk. I'm going to hack it back to between 2 and 4"s, but I'll need some sort of front sight. What is out there for a fella to solder on, or drill/tap, or dove tail? I'm a fair machinist, but I'd like a good sight, rather than just drilling a hole and sticking a roll pin in there for a sight

Well, if you're a fair machinist, I s'pose you could saw off the ramp that has the dovetail that has the current front sight, then dovetail or weld or screw that to the rib on top of the barrel.
