Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I'm more of a rifle guy and I have a leather GALCO concealed carry holster for my Glock 30SF. My question is I want a drop down thigh holster for either my 1911 or the Glock previously mentioned I want a SERPA but what's the difference in a level 2 and level 3 and for a drop down rig which I will be running and moving in which is preferred the 2 or 3. Thanks guys !!!

You want a safariland. The SERPA is being banned by ranges, agencies and schools after a large number of negligent discharges with it (which Blackhawk has lied about) and can also be wedged shut by sand or dirt particles, leaving you unable to draw it.

Good to know, does safariland make a retention type holster

That's most of what they make.

Most cops that I see use their holsters.

Level two Serpa will most likely hold the weapon in the holster when it breaks off it's mounts.
Level three Serpa will hold your weapon in the holster when it breaks off it's mounts.

Try looking up Safariland ALS  for a good system.

I don't like the release on the Serpa. I much prefer the Bianchi Carryloc. The draw is much smoother and just more natural. YMMV?

I've used SERPA's for 6 years with none of the issues people seem to think so prevalent...

Level 2 is only 1 locking feature (locks into the trigger guard)
Level 3 is 2 locking features (trigger guard and hood type over the back of the gun)

Like any tool, learn to use it. Keep your finger straight when activating the release (instead of hooking your finger to press straight in on the button) and it'll slide right up onto the frame above the trigger area.

Serpas are crap.

Get a Safariland.
