I am considering getting a Comp-tac MTAC slide for my 1911's. I currently own a Colt Defender 3", Springfield TRP no rail 5", STI 9mm Commander, and a Double Star 1911 with rail 5". I am only considering carrying the Colt and Springfield in the MTAC.

My question is the slide worth it or should I get two separate holsters? I am concerned that the full size will not ride well in the slide.

The problem with the slide is that when you sit down, you can hit the barrel on something and push it up out of the holster.
It is also easier to get debris pushed into the bore.

All that said, I use a slide for my glock 19 (slide fits all glock 9/40/357 handguns) and I have never had an issue with either,of the concerns above.

A slide will also not keep your front sight from not snagging on the inside of your pants/drawers.

Will the Slide cover all of a 3" 1911 or will a little be hanging out?

Ordered the Slide today. If I don't like it, I will just order the spare bodies that I need.

I've been using any MTAC slide for years and have never experienced either of these issues.

Never experienced this one, either.  If your sight is snagging inside your pants,  your pants must be WAY baggier than mine.

The Comp-Tac MTAC Slides are generally long enough with the front sight area to prevent this. At least the Glock and HK slides are.
My Glock 17 and full sized HK's (With the MTAC slide body) do not extend far enough to allow the front sight to be snagged.

I use a "slide" for my Glock 26,19,17 and a full leather HBE Com3 for my TRP

I would assume that it would work just as good with the 1911, so I say you made the right choice
